Manchester on Saturday and Sunday - what shall we do?

OK, we have a mummy, a daddy, a bachelor in his mid 30s and a 15 month old boy. We have a car, which our friend doesn't, so we think he fancies getting out into the countryside. Any suggestions?

Oh, and while we're on the subject, do you know of a central Manchester C of E church which is child friendly for me and ds to go to on Easter Sunday?

is there anyone out there?

any suggestions please - we've never been, so we haven't got a clue what Manchester has to offer!

A country thing? Is that what you mean?

fairyfly · 07/04/2004 16:18

Here if you scroll down to the bottom of this page you will see country bumpkin days.

The batchelor could always visit me i am one of manchesters special attractions

Depends how far out of the city you want to go - after all the Peak District is very close, Castleton, Buxton etc.

Alternatively, there is Tatton Park (country house + big park + easter craft fair etc)

Sorry - link didn't work - try again \linkwww.tattonpark.org.uk{}

Gumdrop · 07/04/2004 16:25

Oh, bother it. You get the general gist of where the site is!

Bagpuss30 · 07/04/2004 16:25

I was going to suggest Dunham Massey (owned by NT), it's one of my favourite walks at the moment, also Styal Mill and Alderley Edge are good, not sure about things more central to Manchester though as we live in Cheshire, but the retail therapy is fab .

ff, I didn't realise you lived up here too.

fairyfly · 07/04/2004 16:28

Cheshire too, Bagpuss

fairyfly · 07/04/2004 16:32

Tatton park

Bagpuss30 · 07/04/2004 16:32

ooh, maybe I know you in RL ff? If you don't mind me asking where abouts?

Sorry for thread hijack fisil!

fairyfly · 07/04/2004 16:38

You could go to lyme park, me and sykes can be seen streaking there this weekend with bottles of vodka in brown paper bags.

Bagpuss you first

sykes · 07/04/2004 16:41

We're going to have lots of fun.

fairyfly · 07/04/2004 16:46

Are you alright there Sykes you sound like your trying to convince yourself

Fennel · 07/04/2004 16:57

The weather's not supposed to be great this weekend so it could be really rainy in the Peaks.

if you want to go to places in central Manchester the Castlefield canal basin is good, lots of cafes and bars and museums around there. Or around the Salford Quays Lowry area is nice.

Styal Mill and the woods there are good in all weathers.

city centre art gallery is surprisingly toddler friendly too

Child-friendly anglican churches - a popular one is Emmanuel church in Didsbury, about 5 miles south of the city centre. lots of people with toddlers go there.

sykes · 07/04/2004 17:02

I'm very well, FF, just want to go home am exhausted. Have printed out a road map and things and a friend is now trying to confuse me by telling me to go another route. I'm ignoring him.

Bagpuss30 · 07/04/2004 17:41

Just thought of another one, Jodrell Bank. Though probably not good in the rain. You can walk around the telescope now and it is nice and flat for pushchairs but personally I don't think as interesting as some of the other places that have been mentioned.

ff, if you insist . In between Macc and Sandbach. you?

fisil · 07/04/2004 18:06

Thank you thank you thank you. Will follow them all up.

FF, I will tell him to look out for you It would be like a blind date - he'll certainly be able to recognise you by what you're wearing! (actually, sounds a lot like his last girlfriend, so he's bound to fall for you!).
