That's it really, just booking tickets and wondering if the extra £5 is worth it for all of us? (me, DD1 (7) and DD2 (6))

Anyone who has been can they please shed some light on what they are and whether it's worth it.

Thanks

Well I haven't used them and I've been twice, so I can't strictly speaking say if they're worth it :)

I would say no for kids of that age - there is such a huge amount of stuff to see, and you can charge about all over the place inside the two sound stages (only limit is you can't re-enter the first sound stage after you've left it) - I think unless they are extremely sedate you could spend the whole time chasing about trying to work out which number to press on the audio guide.

I actually want to go back some time on my own, because it's such a fascinating museum of film-making - at which point I would hire the guide for myself and go at a slow pace.

What time are your tickets for? My top tip is: once you're released from the Great Hall into the first sound stage, go straight to the back to the green screen bit where you do the broomstick pictures. The queue gets very long and this may help to beat it depending on the time of your visit. (I completely overreacted and did this when we were actually first into the sound stage, there was still no queue by the time we'd finished! But I follow the principle that the only time to go to Ikea at the weekend is 9 a.m., and this was the same idea).

thanks for your reply, that's exactly what I needed to know. Tickets booked - no extras and saving the money for the gift shop!

I took my DS in the holidays. He's 11. We had the audio guides. I was glad I had mine. I'm not sure he was bothered about using his.

As for the tour in general - fabulous. Can't wait to go again :)

I am going next week and my friend who HAS been says they are very good.

Me and DD have been twice but have never bothered with them. I don't think they'd have been worth the extra for me and DD, especially DD who was back and forth looking at everything all the time.

I've been 3 times to the tour and for the ages you say , I would agree no .they are fantastic and full of lots of videos , concept art and background info . The tour is so well laid out and full of interesting things to look at your children will be fine with that .
