Anybody travelled by freight before?

DFDS cancelled our sailing home for Christmas because they sold the sodding ship. We are desperately looking ofr alternatives to flying because of the excess luggage we will have.

One option that has been suggested is freight (Gotherberg to Hull). Has anybody ever used freight before, what's it like?

I haven't but sounds cool.
They might rope you in to peel spuds when the Bulgarian crew jumps ship to seek asylum though!

DP and I have.

It is usually an overnight ferry which has all the lorries on.

We had booked for a daytime sailing from Hoek to Harwich a few years a go, but it had been to rough and the captain had not brought the ferry over on thre earleier sailing so they offered us the freight boat.

I was imaginmging all sorts of things, but it was really good. THe ferry we were on was brand new.

We got something to eat before as we were not sure what food would be available aboard.

When we boarded we are given the key to a cabin with 2 single bunks then went to the dining area for dinner, and looked round the shop. before going to bed. We set sail at 11pm (IIRC) and got woken by a knock on the door at 6am when we able to get some breakfast before disembarking as we were already docked.

DP now ALWAYS uses this ferry as it is more relaxed for him. He can leave our house at about 4pm, pick up a friend from colchester and then drive to Harwich. He gets a few hours sleep on the ferry and is refreshed for the rest of the trip to germany when he gets up.

The crossinh is 26 hours, do you think it'll be o.k. for kids, we have 2 boys 6 and nearly 3?

For a croosing of that length you will deffo have a cabin so they can go to bed when they are tired, there will also probably be a film or something to watch or some other entertainment available.

I would think that they should be ok.

I would not have any problem taking my 4 year old DD if it was me.
