romantic break with baby in tow

I have a big birthday coming up in December and we can't think what to do. |Pre baby my husband used to arrange lovely surprise weekends e,g, Venice , New York etc (yes I know I am spoilt). ANyway this time I think we will have to take my daughter (will be 22 months at the time). Alternatively we could leave her with my parents overnight but that would mean staying with them for the rest of the weekend (more than a night would really bother her). Not sure which is best to do.

I know there is Moonfleet Manor but it is very near where my husband's parents live so it doesn't feel very special, though I know it is lovely. Is there anywhere else similar or does anybody know of something like that in Northumberland or at least not too far from Newcastle (where my parents are).

I've never stayed there but Slaley Hall is supposed to be very nice (www.devere.co.uk I think) - was thinking of going there with Dh for an overnighter as my parents are in Berwickshire for babysitting duties.

There's a featured article on childcare in hotels inc the UK this month on the www.childfriendlytravel.com website. We stayed at Calcot Manor and it was great but there are loads of overseas suggestions too. Enjoy!

Romatic break plus toddler = not possible. My advice would be to leave her with grandparents, she'll be fine.

This posting might not be that useful but...
I've stayed at 2 different Hotel Du Vin hotels and although I've never taken my own kids, there always seen to be loads of them around of all ages. They always seem to be well looked after, having lots of fun and other guests don't seem bothered by them running around (I know that I get paranoid about my kids spoiling other people's breaks when they are being boistrous!). The nice thing about all this is that it is a fabulous chain of hotels that are actually very grown up. All of them have great bistro/restaurants, which is very useful when leaving the toddler in the room with baby listening service. Their closest hotel to newcastle is harrogate which I have been to and is lovely. Good luck!
