Hi ssd,
I took my boys last year who were then 5 and 8 believe it or not!!
We were only on a one night stopover but they loved it.
Park Guell (sp) was fantastic for them (take a picnic) as was the cathedral and just wandering down the Ramblas in the early evening is good fun for them. So much to look at.
Its a great palce for kids and there's lots of little play parks dotted around the place too.

We took the kids over the summer for a weeks and they loved it ....

  • las Ramblas
  • Gaudi Park.
  • adventure Park on Montjuic ... take the tram up.
  • Port Aventura - a waterpark about 40 mins away
  • Science Museum ( but many taxi drivers haven't heard of it yet .... even though it's 2 years old )
  • Go on the open top busesa where you can get on and off when ever you want.
  • there is a beach - but we didn't visit it ... was too hot !

codwiggle · 21/09/2006 18:31

bet there are onyl a couple a day

Skribble · 21/09/2006 22:53

Ryanair do cheap flights from prestwick to two airports near barcelona, one to the south and one to the north.

We went to Gaudi park (Park Guell) on a nice day and it was really interesting and lots of places to explore. But very busy we were there in May.

There was a big match on at the Nou Ca,mp stadium and I wish we had gone to it.

ssd · 22/09/2006 13:38

hi skribble, do you know if these airports are nearish to the centre of Barcelona? Would we get a bus or a train?

I don't know if it would be worth doing a package deal or trying to organise it myself, something I've never done!

I know there are no direct flights from Glasgow thats about it!

I've not taken the kids, but Sitges is nice if you want to get out of the city one day. Good tapas place at the front for you and dh to enjoy, while kids can run up and down the beach.

ssd,the main airport at barcelona is not far from city centre, there is a train station at the airport where u can get connecting trains into the city. The airport south of bcn is Reus abou 45min drive from the city, thats where the theme park is, which is great, also a big water park there as well. There is a great zoo in bcn, with dolphin shows, also a large aquariam. Las Ramblas is fab with the kids, loads of human statures.

Skribble · 22/09/2006 16:10

Reus, thats where we flew into, prestwick is 50 mins on the train from Glasgow, station at the airport. At the other end we got a taxi to our caravan as it was nearby, I think there are buses from airport to city centre.

If you get a good price on flights it can be worth doing as there aere often supplements from scattish airports as all the ddeals are from english ones.

ssd · 22/09/2006 19:10

yes I'm finding the supplements bump it up!

BTW where was your caravan and do you have any info?

Skribble · 22/09/2006 22:15

It was nr Salou with Siblu, Cambrils park . Half way between Salou and Camrils. Taxi from Reus was ?30 but cost ?20 on the way back, negotiate a price first. We got a taxi to Portaventura too.

Siblu is the european name for Haven. Park was nice, clean, good facilities etc but it was a bit butlins really,

The entertainment was shockingly bad, one night we could hear it from the caravan and it sounded awful the night we went we left after the first number as it was very suggestive and tacky. I ain't no prude but .

It has the usual kids club, not the kind you can leave young ones if you have any qualms about security and them wandering off, OK for older ones who stay put.

Restuarant was great, cafe was vary cafeteria fine for toasties and chips.

Skribble · 22/09/2006 22:16

PS caravans were nice well equiped but freezing at night (may) and too close to the other vans. All in all it was a bit pricey for what it was.

ssd · 23/09/2006 09:46

thanks for that!
