We're staying in a cottage near St Austell and would love to hear some good places to take the kids - they're 3 and 20mths.

Woolly monkey sanctuary at Looe

Seal sanctuary at Gweek (nr Helston)

Both lovely for kids.

If you're happy to drive St Ives is lovely for a day out - nice beach, pretty town, old fashioned seaside resort.

Have a lovely time - we're off to Devon tomorrow - let's hope we get good weather!

another vote for the monkey sacntuary it great

alos Dobwalls theme park is great too, it's in dobwalls which is not that far from st austell

Monkey sanctuary great- loads to do for kids, good play area if dry and indoor activities if wet. You can't handle the monkeys, though- not surprising, really, but SIL remembered going there 30 years ago, and was allowed to cuddle a monkey- she told her dd's and my dd, and they all went there expecting to be able to cuddle one and VERY disappointed! Great Ice-cream!

Eden Project- loads to do, lots of it indoors

Lost Gardens of Heligan, especially the jungle walk bit. Not much indoors, though, so try and choose a dry day, or wear waterproofs!

St Ives may be tricky with a pushchair- bits are rather steep. Barbara Hepworth's house is great- the garden has some scuptures that you can CLIMB ON! (Do I mean Barbara Hepworth? Anyway, some woman artist who died in a fire!)

If you go to St Ives - park at Hayle park and ride and get the train in. Much easier than lugging the children down from the top car park and a lovely ride along the coast.

Were also travelling from East sussex to north cornwall too end of month with 4 kids and also looking for places to stop. Check out www.fairweathers.co.uk stephs kitchen in Beulieu its got excellent reviews on tripadvisor (beaulieu hampshire restaurants) The breakfast look nice.

Dairy Land is always a must for us.
Wheal Martyn (china clay museum) especially if you have boys that love diggers!
Both of these the last time we visited gave a free/cheap return (within a week for Dairy Land) but means you could go at start of holiday and return again if you enjoyed it.

Have fun - really jealous! Envy

We stayed near st Austell when I was pregnant with DD. Eden Project was fab, as was a trip to St Ives and Newquay.

Locally there's Charlestown and Mevagissey were lovely for a walk round and an evening meal.

Ladyface · 07/07/2012 22:25

Paradise Park in Hayle (or Parrots Paradise as my dd calls it.)

Carbis Bay is a lovely beach, ideal for children.

Mevagissey is a short drive from St Austell and is a very picturesque harbour.

Newquay Zoo and the Blue Sea Aquarium.

eatyouwithaspoon · 08/07/2012 07:48

Dobwalls has closed.
Dairyland is good, there is plenty to do inside and out, Crealy on the north coast too. In Par Nr St Austell there Kidsworld (softplay).
Eden is ok but pricey. Porfell is nice but only for a dry day - about 30mins from St Austell.

Seahorse Centre at Pentewan (on way to Mevagissy) is nice - pool and small softplay. Then if its dry onto Meva for a stroll and icecream and a tineey tiny Aquarium thats free (donations) :)
