Sardinia - which resort?

I have been thinking of going to Sardinia next May half term. Are we going to find things are closed in May? I found a few (very) old threads on here so wondered if anyone had been more recently. Resorts I am considering are:
Alghero (but is the beach clean?)
Villasimius
San Teodoro

I don't want a resort village/complex, just an apartment/villa within walking distance of the beach but reasonably close to a town/village centre for eating out in the evenings.

Any thoughts?

If it was me I'd go to Villasimius. I think the beaches in the South are nicer than the north although Alghero beach was clean last time I went (about 5 years ago.)
I've always had better weather in the South compared to North too, but that might just be coincidence.
On the other hand there seem to be more flights to Alghero so it may be more convenient depending where you live.
I've also stayed in Cagliari (the capital) and got the bus out to Poetta beach, which made a nice holiday too and everywhere will definitely be open in the city.

I've never been in May but it's the start of the season so there should be places open to eat. The food is amazing there!
I love Sardinia Smile

Hi Siennasun, thanks for the tip. Have you been to Villasimius? It looks a bit of a trek from the beach but I was wondering whether it would be easy to find a taxi if we didn't hire a car. Do you know what time restaurants are likely to be open in the resorts? Kids are still too young to eat too late at night. Thanks

I went a few years ago, so pre DS. We stayed in a hotel called Mariposas which was a short walk to the beach and town centre (maybe 500m to each). Not sure about restaurants being open early but there were plenty of families with small children there. I think Italy is generally very family friendly.

We stayed just outside Alghero in May a few years back. Weather lovely, easy to eat early with children (one of the most child friendly places we've ever been). Everything open. Didn't use the town beach because quieter, nicer ones were closer to our accomodation. The beaches just north of Alghero are just beautiful, very unspoilt. We even saw a dolphin in one bay. We had a second week over on the north east coast - there's a reason that side is popular for surfing/sailing!

Can I recommend you look at the Agriturismos, as you don't want a complex?
