Hi looking for recommendations. We're in the exciting position of having both a little bit of spare cash, time off work, and a possible weekend babysitter lined up. For the first time ever me and dp can have a weekend break Grin Grin Any recommendations of a location in the south west with a fun/ possibly alternative nightlife scene, not too expensive, that can be reached on coach or train. so far we are considering Brighton, Bournemouth, bristol, Torquay and london (possibly a bit far though.don't want to waste too much time travelling- we live in south Devon). our budget for accommodation for the two nights is about £200 so we're looking more at travel lodge than Ritz, could possibly stretch it a little but might be tight.

We're most interested in having a fun time whilst there, good pubs, bands etc. Somewhere maybe with a water park, hot tub etc things you don't get to do much with young kids.

This is for early sept so we have a few weeks to plan. Any recommendations would be great Grin thanks for reading!

Well i got a bit lost at water park, that being the kind of thing I'd only do under duress with kids, but Bath is fab, you could go to the thermae spa for your erherm 'water sports'

Or bristol is a very fun city with more in the way of theatre / comedy / nightlife

Not Brighton if you're in South Devon. It takes fecking ages to get there. About 5 hours with 2 changes of train on my last visit.

Thanks for the replies guys. Mylovelyhouse, hadn't considered bath really. We lived there for a year a few years ago and remember it being very expensive and not much nightlife. But the spa thing is quite tempting (you never do the tourist stuff when you live in a place!).

westcountry woman- thanks for the tip, Brightons out then, not wasting a huge chunk of it travelling.

Think we're leaning more towards bristol, just need to line some decent things up to do whilst there. Any tips on areas/pubs etc? We heard tribe of frog was good, but not on whilst we're up there.

Forgot to say, thing about water parks etc, our dd hates rides, slides and all that. Very scared of them, so waterpark would not really be something she would enjoy. She's only young though, hoping she'll come round Wink
