Luxury all incl. family-friendly hotel with room service included?!

Pre-DC we stayed in an AMAZING all inclusive hotel in Mexico where one of the perks was that the room-service menu was included in the All Inclusive package for no extra charge - 24hrs a day, as much as you liked.

Now we have 2 DC and want to find an AI luxury hotel in Europe, ideally where the room-service menu is included. Strange thing to get hung up over I realise, but its something that for us as a couple (and now as a family) made our holiday easier.

Anyway, other requirements
*Europe, prefer 2ish hour flight rather than 4ish hour flight
*Must be luxury/5-star/very nice - you get the picture!
*Food should be excellent (although we are not fussy eaters)
*Walking distance (preferably), or at most a short taxi ride, to a town/village/somewhere to stroll around
*Be on/very near to a nice beach
*Child friendly, at the time of travel DC would be 5.5 and almost 2yrs
*kids facilities - maybe a crèche, kids pool/splash area, playground areas etc
*Swim up room would be lovely
*2 interconnecting rooms or a family suite type of thing where you have the option of partitioning part of the room off for us (or the DC). i.e. don't want just a bog standard room with the 4 of us in one room.

Have been looking at the Thomson Sensatori hotels but they seem MEGA expensive - £6k for a fortnight in August 2015?!?!?!? Hard to figure out whether they are 'all that' plus they are really over budget. Was hoping to get most things on the wish list for £3k for a fortnight for the 4 of us.

Any suggestions? sorry this is long!

The Sani resort in Halkidiki is fabulous but it's not AI. Having said that, we went for a week at Easter this year (inside school holidays) with two DC and only spent £1.5k on the accommodation so with your budget would it matter if it's AI - you could settle up the balance at the end?

There are a few hotels in Mexico I like the look of so at the moment it is looking like we might do 2-3years of cheapish uk hols then go up Mexico when youngest dc is about 4

OP, I think your budget is not even close to where it needs to be for all that.

We only went half board. We didn't get a swim up room nor was it walking distance to a town (not that you needed it, as lovely marina), and we went out of school holiday season. We went to porto sani. We spent £6.5k!

For what you want, in schoo holidays, you're looking £8k. So double your budget, then add some, and you will get close to what you want. All inclusive £3k for a fortnight? 3* at best.

With hindsight I wouldn't do any lavish holidays when kids not old enough to remember them.

Kids like other kids and a pool. Sorted.

VirtualPointyHat · 28/08/2014 07:16

Sensatori Mexico is absolutely amazing, they even have a special kids room service menu, toys in kids rooms and available in all restaurants.

PM me if you want any details

Pastperfect · 28/08/2014 07:22

As others have said you are being unrealistic on budget especially if you are set on short haul.

There are very few truly five star hotels in Europe which can accommodate your needs for even double that price.

lordnoobson · 28/08/2014 07:25

Plus most if the med in August is bad.

Heels99 · 28/08/2014 08:21

2 interconnecting rooms really pushes up the price. We have started sharing a large family room with our dcs and it has worked fine. In Mexico you are unlikely to be walking distance to a local town. We had a great holiday in Mexico this year for £6-7k but that was sharing a room with dcs, one week of it was outside school hols, weren't within walking distance of town, didn't opt for swim up room and the food was good but not gourmet. So therefore didn't match your criteria.

But we did have room service included! But never used it!

I disagree about not doing doing lavish holidays until DC are old enough to remember it. I did loads of amazing holidays when my DC were young and we all really enjoyed them. DC may be happy with just a pool or whatever but what about the parents who want a bit more adventure, sightseeing, activities or a bit more luxury after working hard all year? I certainly wouldn't only do holidays for the DC to have the memories.

Sorry, but I have stayed in a few nice places and never seen room-service included.

Self catering within a hotel complex is the way to go, if you want to have drinks and snacks whenever.

Can you go at October half term?

monkeyfacegrace · 28/08/2014 20:40

I've done the Moon Palace in Mexico and it was one of the best holidays I've ever had.

We did 10 days, family of 4 for £7100 so not too much over a £6k budget. Really recommend it.

Heels99 · 29/08/2014 07:50

But op budget is £3k, not £6k

Branching out, many all inclusives have room service included esp in mexico

monkeyfacegrace · 29/08/2014 07:56

She said she could up the budget to £6k in her second/third post.

BranchingOut · 29/08/2014 10:52

I have never been to Mexico, so am just judging on European resorts. But I have stayed at Martinhal and room service definitely wasn't included there, plus had a good look at pine cliffs, villa vita, sensatori and all the rest and never seen it advertised.
