New York in September - any hotel recommendations?

DP and I would like to spend a week in New York in mid-September seeing the sights :)

Does anyone have any hotel recommendations; mid-range price-wise, in a nice area, near to some of the main stuff?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Patience

have you considered staying in an apartment? Hotel rooms in NYC tend to be pretty small.
Have a look at this or airbnb.

Hi patiencisvirtuous, have a look at the Helmsley Park lane. Its a nice hotel a few doors away from The Plaza. My sisters and I had such a great time there in 2013, we were upgraded as it was my 40th. (tell them it is your birthday) Brilliant views over Central Park for breakfast and wonderful lunches in Sarah Beth's Diner next door. God I wish I was going to New York - enjoy

I'm looking for October and there are some great deals here on last minute.
I've also stayed here which is cheap,
clean and on the subway in a safe, interesting& non touristy area, great for pottering round drugstores and delis.

Laws are very strict in NYC re apartment rentals and many apartment buildings do not allow this. Many sites do not check the actual legality of listings and people have been scammed at great cost both emotional and financial. You would be far better off staying in hotel accommodation instead when it comes to staying in NYC.

What is your ideal budget per night?.

Heels99 · 12/08/2014 08:38

Op I have booked the Novotel Times Square for next year

Ideal budget £150-200 per night for a double room... I'll bear that in mind re apartments, thanks :)

I can recommend two hotels. The Chelsea Pines Inn is on 14th street, between 8th and 9th. Great neighbourhood. It's actually a B & B and I can't praise it highly enough. Rooms are small but it's just a really special place.

The staff are amazing and during our week there, it became a home from home. So nice to be greeted by name when you return by someone who is genuinely interested to hear about your day and where you've been.

There's a lovely breakfast included - you just help yourself - fruits, cereals, yogurt, pastries etc. I loved the espresso machine!

It's very chilled and relaxed. They leave out cakes etc in the afternoon if you want to help yourself to a coffee when you return from your wanders. They also put a newsletter under your door each morning with details of what's happening in the neighbourhood. I have nothing negative to say about the place - the owner is a gem and all the staff really love what they do and they really want you to enjoy your stay with them. And it's very well priced.

I tried to book it again when I was back earlier this year but they were full so I went to the High Line Hotel which is close by - 20th street and 10th. I also loved the High Line. I stayed in a suite with an amazing bathroom. It's more of a boutique hotel, more expensive than the CPI, but it lacked the charm and the friendliness of CPI.

CPI has a great FB page which is worth checking out - it will give you a good idea of the kind of place it is.

A friend of mine stayed at the Jane Hotel and he was happy with that. He had a nice room with a little balcony.

Have a great time.

if booked as an expedia deal i.e. flight + hotel together, the hudson (258, 58t west - stroll to 5th ave and central park) is fabulous, minimal and trendy in a nosy new york way - wine and cocktails on the open air terrace, and in house club if thats your thing (its pop the media companies sp pretty popular). breakfast around the corner at 66 diner, not in house,. subway station opposite at columbus.
all I would say is all ny hotel rooms are small, and hudson is pretty dark, but for the same price its better than all the others I've stayed at
if you can afford more the soho grand in soho is amazing. tribeca one cheaper but less good location
I personally love soho and Chelsea more for a more neighbourhood feel, but think for what you want hudson would work
have fun
i heart NY

The Lex NYC might suit. Good location and well designed. Might be slightly above budget. Have you tried a flight/hotel deal? This can be cheaper.

We got married in New York at Christmas last year and we stayed at The Muse Hotel, just off Times Square. It was a beautiful hotel, perfect location for all the sites and the rooms were lovely. Definitely would recommend it t anyone,we will be staying there again if we are lucky enough to go back to New York again.

We stayed in the Distrikt hotel in Midtown a couple of years ago in September- easy walk to subway and Times Square and when we stayed there it was very reasonable and the rooms were spotless- would definitely recommend and would book again in a heartbeat if we were going back...close to the main bus station (put us off a bit before we went) , but walking to and from it at any hour felt safe and no issues.

We have also stayed in the Hudson. The rooms are tiny but really well designed. Fantastic location and bars.
