this was our itenrary in case anyone else ever fancies any ideas.
day one
Eiffel tour nice and early - only did second level which was high enough - no queues walked straight on. theres a good gallery on level one that's worth look, and a closed circuit tv camera you can work yourself and look at poeple on their balconies miles away!
thene the batobus from right outside the area to the next stop ( get a day pass really worth it) the mussedorsay where we did a coffee break and a look at the impressionist top ten really - too much would have bored him i think but he appreciated what he saw. (we found the paris museum pass we got at waterloo eurostar really god for this ,the louvre, the arc de triopmhe and NOtre dame)

then we hopped back on the batobus down to the NOtre Dame stop and climbed up the south tower to the top - fab views but very steep!

then that deserved a stroll to the "best ice creams in Paris" at Bertillons on the isle de la cite.- only a 5 minute walk. He had white chocolate and i almost passsed out . we then hopped home.

DAY TWO
we went to the ANvers tube station where we walked with the masses ( it has to be said) up towards the funiculaire link up ot the cathedrale of sacre coeur in mont martre we didnt go in after being a bit church crazy but there was a cute train thing that for only 5 euros took us on a trip all aroudn the pigalle( divert kids faces from sex shops) and the other note worthy sights. touristy but neat.

We had a cofee/crepe for him near the place de tetre where all the naffola artists try and draw bad pics of your kids and then headed down on the metro using the paris visite two day pass we got at Waterloo!! to the "Charles de gaulle etoiles" stop.

We then climbed up the Arc de triomphe with fab views of the champs eleysees which we then walked down stopping to get presents for siblings in the disney shops oh and a crepe and a glace.

At the bottom by the "place de la concorde" is the tuileries gardens where we had a late lunch at "cafe very" fab kids menu and great location right inside the park.

after a nic e lunch break - i foudn it good that in our breaks that i read and he played on his game thing we headed across the park past the donkey rides and yachts you can hire to push acorss ponds to the Louvre. got in "free" wiht out pass again - no qs here either! Did the Egyptian wing and the M lisa - no photos and the Venus de milo.
then went home
top tips are the "paris with kids" book from Fodor i got on amazon and also the flexi map - good compact map that deosnt flap in the wind, also take a gameboy thing or something so that you dont dirve each ohter mad and get a 10 minute break to zone out every so often.

ds1 was a fab mate - never winged - was keen and enthsiastic the whole time and loved taking photos.

Sounds like you had a fab time, would love to do it with dd sometime (she loves art so would love the galleries)

hulababy · 18/09/2006 12:26

Sounds great

Gobbledigook · 18/09/2006 12:34

That sound brill fishter. What have you done with the other 2 to 'make up for it' iyswim? Have never really considered donig anything like that but it is a good idea.

not on the same scale at all but I really enjoy taking the boys to their swimming lessons because I take one at a time and we have a drink and snack in the cafe/bar after and it's about the onlytime I sit down adn concentrate on one child without the others interrupting.

So something like a city trip would be fabbo.

My Mum has taken my sister (now 14) to Paris and New York on her own. They have always loved it. They don't always get on at home so it's good for them to have a laugh together and remind each other that they can actually have a good time together.

It's a great idea, I fully intend taking dd to places on my own when she's older and I hope dh will too.

Good on ya Cod. Glad you enjoyed it.

Yes Cod, I was so there wasn't the money to do that sort of thing when I was younger.

My mum splashed out some of an inheritance on Business Class flights and a lovely hotel.

I was green and plesed for them at the same time if that makes any sense at all???

CheesyFeet · 18/09/2006 16:11

*pleased

Sounds as if you had a lovely trip. Inspired by your example, I have promised DS1 (8) a special weekend away before Christmas.
