I am looking to go next may half term with my family, there will be 4 of us, myself and dh plus 2 young teens.

What areas should i look in, that good for transport (if its off mahattan island)

Not sure we will be able to afford the island itself, although i live in hope!

Thanks

Me and my mum and 2 DDs stayed here in a suite. It had a small kitchen area, bedroom had 2 double beds and a double sofa bed in the living room. Great area, a really good market type shop opposite, amazing bakery and fruit. 10 minute walk to Central Park, about 20 minutes walk to St Columbus Circle.

Oops meant to say it was spotless and in a good area for wandering around at night.
I'm very Envy

We stayed at the Doubletree guest suites on Times Square. Party of 2 Ad and 2 DD (teenagers at the time). Great room - we had our own room and 2 dd's had their own space, right on Times Square so central for everything and close to the subway/restaurants and theatres. Absolutely loved it - got a great deal on expedia and would stay here again in a heartbeat. Clean, spacious and great value for central New York!

Oh thats a shame, my mum paid half so I could afford it!

My friend stayed in suites behind Madison square gardens.

My mum had stayed at the Holiday Inn Midtown and liked it .

Wail. My kids don't want to go!
I found a great apartment, got 4 direct flights for £1600.
Me and dh have been getting giddy chatting on the phone about it. (I've been at wk all day)
Told the kids over dinner,
They asked if there's a pool? No
Is there a beach? No
What about a theme park? Jesus Christ! No.

Never mind. Back to the drawing board!

Air bnb. Used it all over America including NYC.

Apartment rentals in NYC for less than 30 days are infact illegal under their laws. Many of them are scams and many people have been caught out. These rental websites do not check listings at all. If you were to ever travel to NYC you would be far better off staying in hotel accommodation instead.

We stayed at NYMA. Very central(near Empire State Building)with great food and subway connections locally. We walked most places from our hotel. The price included breakfast so was good value for Central Manhattan.

We stayed 5 nights in NYC with 12 and 14 year old. We then went onto Washington DC for 6 nights. We travelled from NYC to Washington using Megabus. It took 4 hours from mid Manhatten to Union station in Washington.
