Never been, fancy going, where would you suggest?
Just me and DH.
We don't like anywhere too busy and touristy though DH likes a spot of cafe culture.
We like walking, beaches, views, spot of culture if there is any, but not essential. Don't want to drive too far at all- either daily or from an airport- maybe an hour max from airport.

Where could be go flying from Luton?

South east, south west, north west?

Fly Luton to Cork. Do the cafe culture/city touring in Cork city (won't take too long but is lovely), then drive around county cork for a few days lots of beautiful towns/villages/coastlines within an hour of the airport.

Try Kinsale and then Clonakility for starters. Enjoy!

Oh ignore me sorry, got my airports mixed up, for Cork you need standstead.

Pinkfrocks · 08/08/2014 17:13

bugger- was just thinking that was the perfect solution.
Std is do-able but Luton is better.

Can you fly to Galway? Galway is small but lively, with cafes and pubs-with-live-music; Salthill (suburb) is quieter but it is all walkable. You are by the sea and there are beaches nearby. If you have transport eg hire car you could visit Connemara or the Burren - both rural, quiet, lovely.

Cork would be fine if you could get there.

Can you get anywhere neat Kilkenny?

I hope wherever you go, you have a lovely time :)

Shamelessly getting it onto my 'Threads I'm On' for when I get a chance to go!

There are direct flights to Kerry, Dublin and Knock. Does that help?

Into Knock, drive over to the coast around Westport and Louisburgh. Lovely towns and fab coastline. Wild rugged and lots to see. Lovely restaurants and cafés in Westport.

Westport ! Totally gorgeous place. We are heading on our hols there.

kslatts · 10/08/2014 22:32

I would suggest flying to Knock and spending time in Sligo and Donegal.

Bunbaker · 11/08/2014 09:26

I was going to suggest Westport as well. Clew Bay is lovely, and so is Achill island.

treaclesoda · 11/08/2014 09:32

I would suggest driving up the west coast and staying in a few different places, if that were an option for you. Some stunning beaches etc out there, its all wild and rugged.

Mind you, I drove round the Sky Road outside Clifden once, which is apparently stunning. I say apparently because a fog descended and I couldn't see beyond the bonnet of the car so we missed it atll !Grin

But even so, I'd still recommend it.

Westport is lovely, but when I was last there my mind was blown by just how expensive it was to eat out etc, worse than Dublin.
