Looking for an alternative to Puerto Pollensa

That's it really, we have been there about 5 times and like the lovely beach, beautiful mountain views and great choice of places to eat. We have a 3.5 year old and a 7 month old so prefer the shorter flight time. We are going to try to get something last min in Sept but I'm struggling for inspiration. All suggestions welcome. Grin

Is there nothing in Pollensa? I was wondering about going then!

I go to Puerto Mogan in Gran Canaria which sounds quite similar. Fancy a swap?

AliceMum09 · 05/08/2014 18:21

We love Puerto Pollensa, there is no alternative!

On the Puerto Pollensa tripadvisor forum there are people saying that Lagos in Portugal is just as nice www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g1028722-i12746-k7635963-How_does_PP_compare_to_Lagos-Port_de_Pollenca_Majorca_Balearic_Islands.html

Calvi, Corsica is lovely and fits what you like about Pollensa.

Lagos is nowhere near as nice as PP. It's not horrible but it has none of the charm and attractiveness of PP. I have been to both and Lagos was fairly forgettable. To be fair the beach is nice but the water is freezing, there are a couple of decent beach restaurants but the town itself is nothing to get excited about and the marina was very disappointing. We didn't like the Algarve much at all, we kept going to new places that we had heard were lovely but none of them even started to compare to the villages etc in Mallorca.

Behoove · 23/09/2014 15:30

Where's nice to stay in PP? I've been looking on trip advisor but there's a lot of reviews about Scottish/Irish/British type pubs and entertainment, which I absolutely hate.
Is there a lovely hotel or apartments without a children's club?(mine are teenage so not necessary)

Cala d'or? Lovely harbour and beach

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 23/09/2014 15:35

I agree with Gran Canaria - but it is twice the flight time and not as pretty as Mallorca / Pollensa.

What about Cefalu in Sicily? It's about an hour or so's drive out of Palermo.

stokeymum39 · 23/09/2014 15:37

We've been twice, using owners direct, and stayed in a villa. I think the prices would be quite good now.

Behoove · 24/09/2014 15:51

Thanks for tips about Cala d'or and cefalu. Will do some searching tonight.
Is Cala Egos very quiet or is there bars with music at night?

ReverseAtMarbleArch · 24/09/2014 17:44

Cala egos is quiet, a few bars and restaurants but nothing very noisy. We enjoyed Cala Egos with toddlers but I would say Cala D'or is better. The beaches are beautiful.

Thank you. Do you know about Puerta Pollensa or Albafura (sp)
Can you tell I'm following the coast around?

I had a similar dilemma - have been to PP 5 times over the years since DS was 1. 2 years ago we tried Santa Eularia in Ibiza which was a recommendation from the PP forum. DH liked it...I thought it was a bit meh. Didn't like the elderly women sat on the beaches with towels saying "F*ck me I'm famous" and didn't find the same range of restaurants as PP. Might be worth a try though. Ibiza is a lot smaller - we normally have a day in marine land or similar but there wasn't that much to do in Ibiza - we went to San Antonio one day but didn't like it, too many hungover Brits!
This year we tried a Thomson Al Fresco caravan on Union Lido site near Venice. Venice was amazing but I wasn't overly keen on caravan, or the excessive amount of sand that ended up in it, and I struggled with the monotony of Italian cuisine. However lovely it is, there is only so long I can go without wanting something different and PP has so much variety. This year I think I'm dragging my brood back to PP - I just miss the pine walk too much!

Is the sea lovely and warm in august in Porto pollensa.
I'm very tempted to go next year.
I have teenagers that just want to swim and eat.
I would like to be able to walk to places and have lovely scenery.

AliceMum09 · 19/10/2014 20:42

It's a long time since I've been during August, but I should imagine that the sea will have warmed up by then. It's very safe for swimming because the water is shallow (but deep enough for swimming) for a long way out and the bay is very sheltered so there are never any big waves. That's why it's perfect for toddlers, they can potter about at the water's edge for hours without getting knocked over by a wave!

I think they have some sort of inflatable assault course anchored off the bigger (I think they call it South) beach during the peak season, which might appeal to your teenagers www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g1028722-i12746-k7715825-Inflatable_Assault_Course-Port_de_Pollenca_Majorca_Balearic_Islands.html
