Flying with insulin

We're going to Spain for 12 nights and need to bring DP's insulin along. We reckon he will need 19 prefilled pens in total, allowing for one spare pen of each type of insulin. We have a GP's letter to confirm that this is required medication.

Does the insulin have to go into the clear bag with the other liquids? There's no way 24 pens would fit in there. He's already got his clear bag filled with other medication and essential toiletries (denture adhesive etc) that we can't guarantee to find easily out there. I'm putting what I can into my bag, but that's pretty full too.

We're only travelling with carry-on so need to accommodate everything within the cabin allowance.

No he shouldn't. I use cartridges which take up less space, but take all my paraphernalia in a pouch and put it on the X-ray scanner separately. Then it's obvious I'm not trying to hide anything etc

Sorry - I mean he shouldn't have to keep it all within the liquid allowance.

Just found this link www.britishairways.com/en-gb/information/special-assistance/medical-conditions which might help even if you're not flying with BA

ps There is now a special Diabetes topic here

Thanks both, I've just found out work has blocked mn (grrr) so sorry for slow reply. I'll check out that link as soon as I get home bettys.

It's a relief to know you've been ok carrying it separately curtains.

We're flying with ryanair but they seem pretty accommodating. Just didn't want any last mi.ute hitches.
