Marrakech with Children?

That's pretty much the full question. Grin ultra conservative, let's do WDW every year DH actually OK'd much more adventurous me booking a short break in Marrakech over Easter next year! I've booked a room in a lovely looking riad - Riad Noos Noos.

We have 2 DC. A super adventurous 12 year old boy who will be over the moon on this holiday and a shy DD (9) who will happily tag along but will fuss over eating tangines etc.

Has anyone taken children here? Any/all hints and tips greatly appreciated!

We went to Morocco last year with DS11 (then), and two other families. Kids aged between 5 - 14, and I can honestly say they all loved it. As did the adults. However, I would say that I found Marrakech 'harder' than the coastal cities and Fez as it is very very busy. You need to be prepared for a lot of hustle and bustle, at least in the main square at night. The street performers and vendors may try to give you the hard sell, but it is more annoying than intimidating. Just give a firm no and keep walking!

The food in Morocco is great for kids. We were pleasantly surprised that all of the children (ranging from v fussy to willing to try anything) found food they liked with not much trouble. There is plenty of Western food to be found, but chicken skewers, chips and cous-cous kept everyone happy! And the sweets and fresh fruit juices are amazing... I'm getting jealous now!

All of the riads we stayed in were stunning, I'm sure yours will be too. I didn't realise that they all face inwards and the bedrooms don't have external windows, so be prepared for very dark bedrooms and arrange nightlights if that might be a problem.

It is an amazing place to visit and I'm sure you will love it!

Oh that's great thanks and good to see I'm not alone!

I'm figuring DD will be fine so long as I tell her things aren't spicy. She won't eat a curry if I call it a curry, but if I make a mild curry and just call it "pork in sauce" etc she eats it without any fuss. Grin

We're only going for a few days so my rough plan is to have dinner in the riad on the first evening, then a day wandering around Marrakech, then a day trip right out of the city, then another day wandering around then we leave the following day after lunch. Hopefully long enough for me to get my travel fix but not too long for everyone else!

Hi, I'm just back from Marrakech with my 13 year old and we loved it. We stayed at Four Seasons for 5 nights and I found a really good guide on Trip Advisor - Aziz - and we did a day trip to Ourika Valley with him, also a half day city tour where he basically drove us to the various attractions and we explored ourselves and then he arranged a walking tour of the Medina for us. He also did our airport transfers - 10 euro each way. Our hotel quoted us a minimum of 50 euro for a transfer and the transfer time was literally 10 minutes! Enjoy.

Here's the link to him on Trip Advisor.

That's exactly the excursion I've been looking at! I've been looking at various companies so thank you for one that you recommend- will look at it just now!
