How much spending money - 1 Adult - 2 DC to Ibiza?

Hi

Am taking my 11 year old DTs to Ibiza in August. We are going Self Catering for a week and I would like to take them on a couple of trips.

I know it's like asking how long a piece of string is but wondered if anyone can advise how much spending money would be enough?

Thanks.

I did a week in a similar resort, SC with two DC, three day trips which cost about 80 euros for two and 50 euros for the other. I spent just under 500 euros. We did buy things like lilos and inflatables for the pool, ice creams every day, DD had her hair braided at the market - we didn't eat out apart from lunches on days out, but I did not feel like we were scrimping.

Thanks Rome. Did you buy if is from supermarket? Plan on eating out a couple of nights.

What resort are you staying?

Expect to pay the same as here for meals out. Local food/alcohol from the supermarket is cheaper but 'British' products eg breakfast cereal are a lot more expensive.

I wouldn't pay for trips. There's a really good bus system in ibiza. Get the bus to the hippy market in es Cana which is on Wednesdays.

Santa eulalia has a pretty promenade.

You can get the boat to formentera (neighbouring island) for £20 ish I think. It's small and flat and good for bike rides. Amazing beaches.

Ses salinas in the south is also a beach worth travelling to.

In ibiza town go to the dalt villa, the old town, which is lovely to wander around in the evening. It is very European - the 18-30 Brit crowd don't go there.

In San Antonio you can get cheap ferries across the bay from different point of the bay (which goes on forever) to the town. Sunset beach (actually rocky not sandy) does have a great view but San an at night is full of drunk Brit teens.

I love ibiza- been on a few family holidays there, DS loved it!

I'm sure you will have a great time.

Yes, there was a decent sized supermarket across the road from our apartment, fresh bakery, lovely fruit etc. We did plan on eating out but one of my DC is younger and after being out all day, it would have been a bit much.

Reflecting on it, that total included beach towels, bucket and spade set, toy bus, flip flops, suncream (ours ran out), and a few small gifts.

weatherall · 26/07/2014 13:46

this might help you have an idea of costs.

Staying in San Antonio Bay. Thanks so much weatherall that's fab Smile

There's a water park in playa d'en bossa on the other side of the island, near the airport.

I can't remember if you can get a bus straight from the bus station in San an or have to change in ibiza town, but it's not a long journey either way. I remember that the lockers were quite pricey there which was a pita as a single parent without another adult to watch the stuff.

classybint · 26/07/2014 14:56

You have to change at Ibiza Town to get the bus to Playa d'en bossa. Have you considered hiring a car? You can see so much more of the island, and most of the better beaches.

I love San bay we stayed at the palmyra hotel on the bay.
I agree towards the town can get rowdy, but with two 11 year olds if you went early and came back before 10pm you should be fine as the club bears don't go out till 11 onwards and there are some nice shops there.

You can walk round the bay via the beach promenade to San town, bars and shops to past(well prob more bars)
next to the palmyra hotel is i think it's a Pizza Hut and also Burger King.

In Spain most supermarkets are lidl or aldi, but agree British brands are dearer, ie Heinz, Kellogg's,walkers, etc

Nice cheap wine, if you like larger San Miguel is nice.

Thanks everyone!! Can't wait to go now!! First holiday on my own with my DC.

I agree about hiring a car if you can afford it.

I haven't driven

weatherall · 26/07/2014 23:04

On the island but wish I had.

There's lots of hidden beaches.

Wishyouwould · 27/07/2014 14:48

Thanks but I haven't passed my test yet, currently having lessons.

I go to Ibiza twice a year
I adore it there but...it can be blardy expensive in some parts
I think that you should bear in mind that the drinks, whilst expensive, usually contain at least triple measures
We pretty much always have a paella out at lunch..varying the version. My kids adore it and it is amazing value for money
My friends always do stunning picnics with wine ham cheeses etc. they use the super mercado and buy a cool box...sounds naff but is fab

Thanks for asking this OP - I was just about to ask similar.

We're going fot 1 week AI with 2 adults and 2 DC. We've had an unexpected expense this month so I'm looking at having 500 euros - this should be plenty do you think? We're generally happy with easy going days/nights out - pottering round and having stopping for drinks ice creams.

wigglesrock · 30/07/2014 18:59

StaryeyedSurprise - we went for a week at the beginning of July - 2 adults & 3 kids under 10. We spent less than that - souvenirs , bus fares, 2 taxi fares, numerous cuddly tat - my 3 year old has a menagerie of cuddly geckos!

We didn't eat out at all, we were AI. We had a quick lunch, snacks at the beach on 2 days, and the odd ice lolly. We bought water, crisps, sweets, wine from the local shop. We didn't go on any trips but mine are a little too little to be that bothered.
