Can anyone recommend a honeymoon style holiday please?

We never had a honeymoon. We're looking to go for 2 wks January-March

I'd love to go to the Maldives or somewhere like that but we don't have that kind of money unfortunately

Found a lovely place in HmmBarbados earlier but it was £7k. We can't afford that. Maybe half? If that! Grin

Sri Lanka is perfect that time of year. You can do beach/jungle/safari/culture or just laze around! Lots of different accommodation from budget to luxury. Check out i-escape.com for ideas (have used them many times and never had a bad hotel).

We went to Barbados for ours and it was gorgeous. I'm sure you could get somewhere really nice for much less than 7k. Or other Caribbean ?
Also maybe have a look at Mauritius?
I would love to go to Sri Lanka as suggested above, my brother really rates it.

Actually not sure if Mauritius could be rainy then, we went in April and the weather was lovely.

Jamaica every time for me! Check out the "couples" chain. Been to them all and they are fabulous! Should be able to bring it in well under 3.5k. If budget stretches a little further, South Africa (inc a safari is awesome; check out shamwari private game reserve)

We went to Cape Verde back in March. They call it the 'forgotten Caribbean'. It is white sands and very blue seas, unfortunately they are rough a lot of the time in Boa Vista where we stayed,but I don't go in. It was a lot cheaper than 7k too!

We stayed here I'd thoroughly recommend it. If you look at the other Riu hotel on the island that has adult only areas.

My parents went to Sal and loved it, too.

Mauritius was a bit meh for me. The resort was nice but there wasn't lots to do outside of it.

Mexico was brilliant but try to go a few hours south of Cancun.

Do you absolutely want beach resort? South Africa is fab at that time of year and there are numerous price brackets for safari.

There is plenty to do in mauritius, boat trips to Islands, nature reaves, rainforest, Hindu temples, the capital has loads of shops etc, waterfront area and unesco world heritage site museum, plantation houses, lots of fab beaches and restaurants. Watersports, golf, spas etc.

I think carribbean at that time of year though, should get a week all inclusive for 2 of you for your budget.

I think South Africa may push your budget a bit, but is fab and agree shalwari is amazing.

Thailand?

I think I would go for either the Caribbean or Thailand at that time of year. St Lucia is beautiful as is Jamaica.

I've been to Thailand many moons ago and Mexico before I met DH to a lovely luxury resort.

Was thinking Jamaica - seems you get more for your money in the Caribbean than Indian Ocean

I'll definitely look at Sri Lanka and Mauritius.

Feel like we may only get one more adults only holiday before we think about DC so want to make sure it's a good one. Lesson learned though - we should have asked people to buy us a honeymoon when we got married. Noted for next time WinkGrin

I often wonder if us Europeans over look special destinations because they're in Europe and don't sound as exotic?
I would be tempted to look closer to home for a hidden gem, perhaps save myself some money and have it to spend while away and have a shorter haul.

I would fly to San Francisco (March though) and go down a Highway 1 in a sports car. Fly back from Los Angeles. Beach resorts are ok but hardly an experience to remember. Hiring a Mustang and driving in California is much more exciting. I would also look at LA (Santa Monica) and driving down to San Diego. Nice weather in March too and plenty to do.

5* Scotland. Hire a posh car and do a tour staying in castles and other usual places.

There are too many places to go/things to do. Might have to do a bucket list. And put off DC for 10 years...

Mauritius is lovely, I'd recommend the Beachcomber hotels as they cover a spectrum of budgets. Not in January, too hot and about 90 percent humidity (I was running from aircon car to aircon venue, so sweaty), October or November is perfect time to get some winter sun. Lots to do and great people and food (due to Dutch, French and English invasions).

The Cook Islands are amazing - there is a direct flight to/from LA every Saturday so you could combine with a few days there. Either that or go via New Zealand (which is amazing) and if you have time include a few days in Renwick visiting the vineyards.

Panama is beautiful and great all year round, very safe apart from Panama City where you just need to use taxis to get between the good bits. You have beaches, extinct volcanos to climb, coffee plantations to visit, great if you want a little adventure and very reasonable.

What is your budget? You could go 5 star in the uk and splash out on spa treatments and Michelin star food.
Chewton Glenn and Lucknam Park are my two UK favorites. Oh and the Four Seasons Hampshire is beautiful, though not stayed there so don't know how good the spa is.

We had 2 honeymoons cos we couldn't decide.

One was Scotland (luxury), and one was a rtw trip (budget) 6 months later. Grin

Love to do rtw but if we had the money for that I think we'd have to use it to help buy a home.

Coldcottage - could stretch to £3k maybe but less if possible

Holidays are so expensive. No idea how people go on so many!

I do feel though this should be something we'd be less about to do if we had kids

Maybe a beach holiday isn't the best thing. Don't know now. Lots of good ideas here
