Cheap stays near public transport nearish Paris?

Lovage · 17/07/2014 13:23

By cheap, I mean not much above 100E a night for the 4 of us.

I'm not expecting to be in actual Paris for that kind of money, but somewhere further out that's on a reasonable train line into Paris (30 mins or so?) would be fine. The B&BHotel chain usually has 4-person family rooms for 60 - 75E a night but the Paris ones I've looked at don't seem to have family rooms. I can't find a way to search their site for hotels that do have family rooms.

Does anyone happen to know a B&BHotel chain place near Paris that does have family rooms?

Or anywhere else that fits these criteria ?

We will have a car with us, so could drive to public transport into Paris. DP is not keen on AirB&B. Youth hostel would be fine. Campsite with a static caravan? Huttopia Versailles looks lovely and has chalets, but much too expensive, even in the first week of September when we'd be there.

Thank you!

we stayed in a fab family flat in a building near the metro in Paris....just emailing my dh to get the name of it. It was cheap too. I'll be back!

If you go on line quick Euro camp has 6 nights for £354 at international Maisons Laffitte. 2 bed 1 bath mobile home thingy.

Jellified · 17/07/2014 13:43

Just looked again. It's euros - even better. There's other options as well and I am sorely tempted to book and risk 3 x school fines Grin

shivs1974 · 17/07/2014 13:44

Have you looked at airbnb?

donnie · 17/07/2014 14:03

www.villa-daubenton.com

was the place where we stayed, in the 4 person apt. I booked it through Eurostar so I got a good discount. It was in a lovely area, few mins walk from a local market, a metro, but we could also walk to places like Notre Dame.

Lovage · 17/07/2014 21:59

Thank you Jellified and Donnie.

The apartment place looks lovely but isn't coming up cheap! 200E + a night on a special offer. You must have got a good discount!

The campsite doesn't seem to allow you to rent a caravan for less than a week - we just want four nights.

shivs1974 - DP is not keen on airb&b

Any other suggestions

Oh ignore me, Jellified, you can book 4 nights - I think I was looking so far in advance that it couldn't cope.

Hope you find somewhere good. We stayed at St Germain a couple of years ago and that was really convenient.

Hello. We stayed with Centreparis (rental agency). We spent a bit of time looking at apartments and then trip advisor reviews (and paris trip advisor forum). In the end we went for an apartment very close to Place de la Republique. It was great. It was called Temple (5 or 6). There were quite a few apartments in the same building through the agency and I think we went for the largest because it had a separate bedroom and a sofa bed in sitting room. There were 4 of us. It was great. We are thinking of booking it again later this year. I know we paid maybe 80 euros a night. The agency were good and I actually negotiated a price because originally it came in a bit high. I was a bit worried that it might be a dump but it was great. Very old building - in busy "lived in area" - but very quiet and we felt comfortable coming and going. Good area and metro at end of road. I wouldnt hesitate to use it again. One good thing was that it had a shower room and then a separate loo. Big flat by Paris standards - for the price. Hope that helps. - Children loved it. They got the bedroom so we could sit in the sitting room at night and drink wine :)

Lovage · 18/07/2014 12:45

Thanks, 80E for central Paris is a great price! Presumably there wasn't anywhere to park a car though? I've realised we might actually have to be outside the centre because we'll have a car (on the way home from a gite holiday somewhere else).

Try the Adagio Access Paris Porte de Chaenton Its got one bed apts and parking which is 10 euros a day. Some of the rooms have a view of the Eiffel Tower and you are near a big park for picnics and DC runarounds.
Also on metro system in zone 1 so direct access to Paris centre with a couple of changes, plus supermarkets etc handy for groceries etc
Its on most hotel sites and there are a few discount codes going at the moment

GretchenWiener · 20/07/2014 11:32

we stayed at an airport hotel ( charles de gaulle) the other day
Try all of those - they will pbv have transfers

GretchenWiener · 20/07/2014 11:34

( with car park) and was iirc 30 - 40 euros per night. Its basic - lots of school groups use it but also had three bed rooms.

Charles de gaulle roissy

iwantgin · 20/07/2014 19:54

We did that one year - after a week in a villa had two nights in Paris. We rented an apartment which had its own garage. Gold dust!

However it did cost about 200Euro per night- and this was 5 or 6 years ago.

Perhaps you could look around for similar.

Other budget hotel chains to try - Ibis Budget. They used to be Etap - and we often used them. We were two adults, three kids - so took a twin and a triple room. ONe adult in each room.

When are you going?
Eurocamp has a site quite near by - and they do stays of less than a week at a time?

GretchenWiener · 21/07/2014 07:47

You're welcome

ChippyMinton · 21/07/2014 20:19

Try the Ibis Budget Porte de Vincennes. Cheap as chips, on-street parking is free in August, just off the Peripherique, 5 minute stroll to the Metro. It's in a pleasant residential area with a market and normal shops.

Lovage · 21/07/2014 21:05

Thanks everyone - definitely some leads there. The idea is to go sometime towards the end of the first week in September, next year, because due to teacher training days, the kids don't actually start school until the 7th Sept.

Hotel rooms that only take three beds would have to be extremely cheap to be worth it because we'd have to get two rooms, not one. Will investigate airport ones GretchenWiener thanks. I don't expect airport hotels to be cheap, but maybe it works differently in France!

We always use the Budget Ibis at Porte de Vincennes too. Just booked for August 75 euros a night for a room that sleeps 3. On street parking and I think they have a garage too (costs extra).

revealall · 21/07/2014 21:57

We stayed at the Hotel Savoy in Clichy. It's an office suburb but very close to two metro stations and a good sized cheap underground car park. Was a nice enough area.and had some nice bars and small restaurants and market. That hotel is a bit pricey but this isn't bad.

I would recommend the area and booking.com has a few within your price if you put in 2 adults 2 children.

Lovage · 21/07/2014 22:06

But those of you who use Ibis, do you smuggle an extra child in?! Or do you only have one DC, in which case obviously it's fine, but with four of us, anywhere that only sleeps 3 is not cheap at 75E a night if we need two rooms. That's why we usually use B&BHotels - the only chain I know that regularly has 4 person rooms (although I expect there are more, I just don't know them).

Thanks revealall, Clichy would be a good area, will investigate.

the airport 1er class was basic but clean sheets, towels ( no hair dryer) kind of easy jet style

stairwaytodevon · 21/07/2014 22:30

Adagio chain have a number of aparthotels in Paris. Thought they would suit as have 2 rooms and can accomodate 4 Theres a really good one called the Eiffle that has a swimming pool but may be too expensive for you. Just a bit of info about staying near the airport the journey into central Paris will be quiet expensive for 4 and will take quite a long time so no Paris by night, the nearer the better for young DC

Chopchopbusybusy · 21/07/2014 22:38

Have you had a look at Novotel? We went a few years ago. Really can't remember which one we stayed at but it was very close to a train station so easy to reach Paris. It had an underground car park. We chose Novotel as it was one of the few hotels which could accommodate four of us.

themightyfandango · 21/07/2014 22:59

I stayed just outside Paris at Easter, 2 adults and 3 children.
We stayed at a mobile home/campsite called Le Chene Gris. It's a french equivalent of Haven but slightly better imo. The mobile homes are basic but v clean and modern, lovely surroundings, pool, clubhouse etc..

The bonus is they have a station on site and you can buy tickets at the camp info desk. The trains are very regular and take about 45 min into Paris centre. The trains are a thing of beauty compared to British trains too!

Type Le Chene Gris into Google, they have a website. It was very cheap when we went around 240 euros for 7 nights plus bedding costs. It might be slightly more this time of year but it worked out brilliantly for us. We couldn't have afforded more with 3 children and we mainly used it as a base for days out to Paris, Disney etc..

We drove there but I guess you could get there by train too.

HTH

themightyfandango · 21/07/2014 23:10

A couple of things to bear in mind though, return tickets to Paris weren't cheap around 80 euros for our family but one of mine is a teen so classed as adult. If you have 2 young children it will be cheaper.

Also the mobile homes don't have ovens just a hob and microwave so other than basic food we ate out a fair bit.
