Elephantom in August - what else to do with day?

Excited to be going to see Elephantom in hols with DH and DS, 7, reviews look excellent. We are unable to arrive at Marylebone until 11.00am and show is at 2.30pm. Not sure how best to use rest of time. We don't have to rush back and are happy to pay for one meal out during the day ( I mean 3x one meal obviously!), taking packed food for him for the other. Considering British Museum as it is close - looks not spectacularly child friendly, but I'm comparing to Science Museum and NHM so maybe unfair? We both love Sir John Soane's museum but think the tut rate in there might be a bit high with DS? Mooch about Covent Garden any good - see lots of threads saying avoid it....and food, maybe Belgo's???

I took DD2 11 to The British Museum in February and she loved it and it wasn't a day when special kids stuff was going on. On an ordinary day great artefacts to look at but not hands on/interactive if that is what you are looking for.

On the food front, I have been promising that I will get ourselves to the Rainforest Café this summer. Reviews sound fun.

Take him to grants museum of zoology just up from the British museum but only open Monday to Friday so not good if you are going at the weekend.

if the weather is nice, regent's park is just up the road from Marylebone and has lovely playgrounds and a boating lake and a posh café. if you like zoos, London zoo is also close.

Thanks all. Good call on Grants Museum ELR, I think it's been used on TV several times as it's sooooo period. I think we might incorporate a walk from Buckingham Palace to Big Ben and picnic in Green Park along the way. London zoo always seems a bit disappointing I think - certainly for the money, even with 241, there are so many better zoos. Rainforest Cafe reviews are somewhat mixed I find - lots of people saying it's terribly overpriced and not that good.

I would personally avoid the rainforest cafe however it really does depend on what you as a family would enjoy. My niece and nephew think it's amazing! A walk and picnic sounds fab, you really can't beat a good picnic. Hope you gave a great time eat ever you do.
