I'm very excited...... We have decided to go on a city break to New York at the beginning of December. We will be child free ( thank you soooooo much grand parents), have never been and would love to hear your experiences.

Have been a couple of times I'm summer but it's so lovely in winter.

Expect to be overwhelmed with Christmassy-ness. Everywhere puts on a good show.

Assuming you are UK based expect to be shocked at how cold it is. I can only explain it as a 'dry' coldness which gets into your bones. Take lots of layers as you'll be dotting in and out of buildings.

Top of the rock (Rockefeller building) is better than going up Empire State Building. Better lifts, better viewing platforms and you can see Empire State Building / get it in your photos.

Subway is very easy to use so you don't need to stay right in at hotspots. We normally go down to TriBeCa next to a busy stop. Has the bonus of having a traditional diner next door so can fuel up on a massive brekkie.

Affordable Tiffany / silver section is on 2nd floor - I always treat myself as a wee memento of the trip Grin

Thank you, yes I've been told it's cold! I feel like an over excited child just at the thought. Due to work DH will have been away from home for 9months so the thought of a child free holiday, wandering around the sites, leisurely food and late nights is just a little bit overwhelming

Lots of time to plan it all out then - you'll have an amazing time!

We had our honeymoon there in December. My favourite bits were the oyster bar at Grand Central station, the top of the rock (Rockefeller) and taking a carriage ride through Central Park. But it was all lovely. I thought it couldn't live up to the hype but New York is just amazing.

We spent our first married Christmas there. We booked a table for Christmas lunch at a lovely restaurant but forgot about supper and got to the evening ravenous-we couldn't afford food in our hotel (Waldorf Astoria) so ended up eating pizza slices from a hole in the wall pizzeria Grin

It's beautiful. Shop lots, walk around the park, amazing museums. MOMA is fantastic. We didn't use the subway, we just walked and walked and walked.

And yes, take the furriest, warmest clothes you have and be prepared for potentially a LOT of snow.

Oh how exciting, we spent our first married Christmas there too, love Audrey Hepburn and i did the Breakfast at Tiffany's thing and it started snowing it was xmas eve, so romantic, did horse drawn carriage in the snow.

Try to book a table at Tavern on the Green - (based in Central Park) they really go to town on Christmas lights et, very over the top but lovely. New York is an amazing city, We have been 4 times and loved every time. Christmas is special, so go all out and enjoy xxx
