Disney Paris - hotel advice

So I'm doing some regular overtime, and we think we're going to book disney paris with the proceeds. I think we'd like to stay in one of the Disney Hotels, as the DC are early risers, so we'd be able to make the most of the extra 2 hours. Are any of the hotels particularly recommended? We can't stretch to the giant pink monstrosity, but all the rest are doable.

i went in May and we stayed in sequioa lodge and upgraded to the golden forest rooms. i would highly recommend this hotel if you can afford the upgrade. you get a superior room that is tastfully decorated not too ott with Disney. the best thing about the up grade it at breakfast your in a different room for other hotel guests and the characters come round to see you. if you go.early enough the room is not very busy and you get lots of time with them. my daughter loved this and so did i. also in the afternoon there is free drinks and sweets available which we took advantage of. the hotel has shuttle buses going to the park too but we found the walking distance manageable even with a 4 year old. as you would imagine this is Disney and the staff at the hotel were lovely and very helpful. we are saving to go again and will definitely go to the same hotel and upgrade.

When are you going? I think i'd book Sequoia Lodge for winter with all the log fires in the bar etc, it's nice and cosy but for summer I think I'd go for Newport Bay (depending on if the renovations are finished).

Personally I'd avoid Cheyenne and Santa Fe if you can afford better.

I've stayed at all but the Cheyenne and Sante fe and we always end up going back to the New York , its lovely winter and summer ,close to the village and the restaurants are nice.

thanks everyone - we're probably looking at May half-term next year, or maybe Easter. the main ones we are considering are New York, the upgraded bit of Sequoia Lodge, and the Newport.

Newport Bay is huge ( used to be the biggest hotel in Europe) and can be busy and chaotic at breakfast . When we went we got an upgrade to the Captains Cabin but I'm not sure they upgrade many people as there were only ever about 4 families in there . That said we went back to the New York the following year as it's just nicer . We stayed at the Disneyland hotel one year and TBH couldn't justify the difference in price as if you want to eat in the village or go to the Studios it's still a walk .

i quite like the idea of the separate breakfast room at the Sequoia upgrade bit - i know very little about disney, but everyone I know who's been has moaned about long queues at breakfast. we're fine with a longish walk - dd1 is well trained in walking at a good pace, and dd2 will be in the buggy.

I've never queued for breakfast at the New York and we've been going since it opened and have stayed at different times of the year .

If you are not going until next May then you should be aware that as of November this year there will be no more character meet & greets in the Disney Hotels, and this includes having no characters at the Golden Forest breakfast room in the Sequoia Lodge. I believe the characters are going to be in the park instead during the extra magic hours (8-10am). Trip Advisor has a really good Disneyland Paris forum where you can get loads of info.

We stayed at the Sequoia Lodge during February half term this year. We had a Montana room, which is a 'normal' room within the main hotel building. Standard rooms are the same, but are in one of the separate lodges. If you stay in a lodge you have to walk to the main building for your breakfast. We loved the hotel, the room was nice and had enough space for 2 adults, 2 children, a baby, a travel cot and a pushchair. The breakfast was lovely and we ate at the Hunters Grill buffet on two evenings and that was nice too. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the Disney Village, it's then about another 5-10 minutes through the Village to the park entrance.

Also, we never queued more than a couple of minutes for breakfast. We tended to get there before 7:45am though, if you leave it much later I think the queues start to build up.

I have heard of people getting up and going straight to the park for the extra magic hours and then going back to the hotel for a more leisurely breakfast with no queues at 10am. But that wouldn't have worked for us, my kids tend to want to eat as soon as they get up, and so do I! But I guess you could take some of those breakfast biscuits with you and get a coffee at Starbucks, or hot chocolate for the kids, on the way to the park.

Golden Forest club is lovely and you get a free fast pass each per day, free hot drinks and snack every day, your own breakfast room with characters everyday (though they are stopping characters in the hotels) free towels at the pool (which has a fun waterslide)

I wouldn't bother with Newport Bay until they've sorted out an 'upper tier' service level like they used to have (like Golden Forest).

Having said that, I haven't stayed at HNY and quite fancy trying it next time.

Disneyland hotel is lovely ( pink monstrosity) it is literally at the gates of the park, you are out the door and in the park in one minute. You can nip back to the hotel to warm up/ cool dow/ put your feet up if you want to. Fab breakfast not chaotic no queues. It is worth it to be right on the park, can have breakfast with view if cinderellas castle, watch the fireworks out the window at night, character dinner every night. Lots of characters in morning and no queues for this and they spend time with the kids, remember Minnie skipping down the corridor with my girls and them spending an hour playing with all the characters one morning and chasing them round the hotel. What shame they are not having the characters in the hotels any more, queues are always massive in the park.

CecyHall · 30/06/2014 11:21

I really hate the style of the Disneyland Hotel, it's just not my cup of tea (plus we've had some seriously horrible service in there) and while the location is fab I'd personally rather have a longer walk, nicer decor and more money for Glowtinis!

Heels99 · 30/06/2014 11:53

Newport bay I find breakfast a chaotic scramble. New York is not too far a walk but I find a little lacking in atmosphere.

poorbuthappy · 30/06/2014 12:54

Personally I prefer the Sequeia Lodge to Newport Bay. More atmosphere.
