Travel insurance for knock-on effect of cancelled flight?

Does anyone know of any insurance that covers for the knock-on effect of a cancelled flight?

We’re getting married in Gibraltar and flying from there to Marrakech for honeymoon. We’ve booked the Marrakech flight with a tiny travel agent in Gibraltar, which (unsurprisingly given their total lack of advertising) is suffering lack of customers. As a result they are cancelling flights and am worried this might happen to us.

Obviously the airline would reimburse us the cost of the flight if it cancelled it, but I am looking for something that would also allow you to claim for losses such as the hotel in Marrakech, the flight home from Marrakech etc. which would be consequential losses of the cancelled flight.

It’s the kind of thing a package holiday would cover I think, but I am struggling to find cover for the DIY option!

Is it the airline that is cancelling flights or is the Agent going bust? If the airline is not cancelling the flights, I cannot see how the agent can do this, unless of course they are not passing on the fare money to the airline. I would check with the airline what your position is and that your money has been passed on to them. If there is a problem, do you know if the hotel has been paid for? Could you rebook direct with the airline if you have to?

Travel insurance covers travellers if they do DIY or package. Ours is an annual policy from AXA and covers any arrangements we make ourselves. I would advise, very strongly, you look at the small print of any policy and find out urgently, what, exactly, is going wrong in Gibraltar. It sounds very dodgy to me.

Also, if airlines cancel flights they rarely reimburse you. They put you on another flight. You can claim for delayed flights on insurance however. I hope you can find out what is going on and get peace of mind.

We've booked with a small agency. The airline - royal air maroc - and the agency continue to operate. The issue is that regularly this route from Gibraltar to Morocco is being cancelled due to low numbers. No idea what to do or if the insurance im after actually exists!
