Hi All

Off to Thailand in August with 3 DCs aged 6,4 & 2. Just starting to think about logistics and especially packing.

Obviously there's the usual stuff but am wondering about 1st aid stuff and anything that might not be immediately obvious. Thought I'd take plasters, calpol, piriton, antiseptic cream, handgel, insect repellant (any recommendations?) and sun cream but I'd be grateful for suggestions of anything that you've found particularly handy.

Many thanks!

Check with your travel insurer re the recent coup, further details are on foreign office website.

I would take all the things you have listed plus sting relief and travel sick tablets.

Have a great time!

Depends where you are going. I spent a year in Thailand and took antibiotics, malaria tablets, sutures, needles, syringes, cannulas etc. Some medical practices are dubious. Bit cities and hospitals are fine.

After sun?
Headache tablets?
They do have Boots in Thailand if you need anything else.

Have a great holiday!

insect relent from here was good for India

I took dc's aged 3 and 9 some years ago and took cotton clothing that covered up well.

Took spare change of clothes for me on the plane - if one of the dc is sick it is likely some may splash n you.

They sell Johnson & Johnson insect repellent for babies in the pharmacies there. I also recommend buying a bottle of Caribbean Breeze (I think) after sun gel when you get there, there's one you can get with lidocaine in it which eases the pain of sunburn as well as cooling aloe vera.

Boots Soltan Water Play is the best sunscreen for children if they're going to be outside in the pools etc, my friend runs a nanny/babysitting agency in Koh Samui and on the first day I arrived she came to meet me with that and the J&J insect repellent for my baby, saying those were her tried and tested old reliables.

And don't worry you can get pretty much anything there ( and cheaper )

But, watch out for...

you can get it all (and they do have Boots!) but it is always wise to take a medicine kit as who feels like shopping when they are ill?

24/7 DEET for all as it is a dengue zone.

full sunsuits and hats for children, obviously no deliberate sunbathing for all and enjoy.

Scarletohello · 25/06/2014 17:53

And you can even buy this! ( in case you can't read it, it's Protect and Perfect Whitening cream...) was a bit shocked to see Boots had done this version of it tbh.

Ooh, lots to think about there, thank you all very much. All useful stuff, although some I'd rather not think about - Ivy, am wondering if a wet suit might be the best option for the flight! Together with my crash helmet to avoid hose coconuts.

All added down and added to my growing list.......thank you all once again, MN helpful as ever. x

I came across the coconut thing in Fiji - the smart resorts cut them down but we were in a cheap one. Wondered why the porch of our bungalow was so solid until....THUD! The leaves pack a fair punch too.

the thing is delicious if you can find someone who knows how to open it.

so don't sit under a coconut palm!

Longdayalready · 29/06/2014 19:53

Special, I think I'm going to spend the entire stay in the brace position! I had no idea!! Shock - at least, I'll have to check out the porch on arrival Grin

Someone once told me that more people are killed by falling coconuts than die in plane crashes! Don't know if it's just an urban myth, but yes, do be aware..!!

travel is certainly educational!!

I found Thailand great for buying medical supplies. If I was going again now I reckon I'd stock up on everything there, waaaay cheaper and no prescriptions needed I realise that's not necessarily always a good thing! :o

The whitening stuff is weird..
Me and Dsis were trying to buy moisturiser in Boots in Bangkok and couldn't find one that wasn't whitening. The irony of us relishing our suntans..
