When I went to Boston in 1999 I was brought in to a little room and I was asked so many questions about the purpose of my visit. On the advice of Irish Embassy I had a letter from my employer stating that I had a permanent job to return to. In those days, mobiles didn't work in America and my friends were waiting at the airport believing I'd missed my flight. Again, in 2004 I went to USA. This time, with an English bf and his family. They all had British passports and were waved through but again, I was brought in to a little room and again, asked the same questions about the purpose of my visit and what I did for a living and so on and so on. My x (then bf's) family were just hanging around waiting for me, wondering if I had a criminal record or something! (I don't).
So, that was ten years ago. Now I have a daughter and the same friend I visited years ago has a daughter the same age. I am going to visit her but I'm beginning to wonder what will happen to my daughter if they pull me in to a little room. Will she be allowed to sit with me while I answer their questions? I know two times could be two coincidences. But it feels like 100% likelihood of being singled out for questions.
Does it set off a red flag on their system, an Irish person living in the UK travelling to the USA on holidayy? WHen I was travelling with my friends in 1999, they had all either flown from Ireland, or they were flying from the UK and had British passports. I was the only one travelling from the UK but with an Irish passport. Is this very 'red flag' to them?
I've never outstayed a visa anywhere, I've no debts, never been in trouble with gardai or police.....
