Gite/villa in South of France for 13 people - help!

Can anyone recommend a gite/villa/house anywhere in South of France please?

Have had no luck finding a place within our smallish budget (don't want to spend more then £1500 for the week).

There's 13 of us - 8 adults, 4 children and 1 infant.

We want to go in August for 10 nights, probably 19th-29th.

Another complication is that we're catching the train down so needs to be near to a train station.

Please help!

TIA

I would think that is pretty much an impossibility on that budget. And gites tend to be in the countryside. And usually places are booked by the week. Have you actually booked the train yet?

I think for that budget you will be lucky. Especially in the south of France.

Also the 10 nights is tricky. The majority of house rentals I have used have all been weekly - generally Saturday to Saturday.

I have just had a look on Chez Nous - they were all ££ more than that.

How about a campsite with a couple of mobile homes between you?

Its a week Sat 23 to Sat 30 but there is place near Narbonne on Gites de France for up to 15 people for just over 1500 gbp - ref gf1748. Or look for 2 or 3 smaller gites in same complex. As previous poster said, 10 nights and a Tues start are going to be more of a problem - can you be flexible?

I think you might struggle a bit. You could try provacances. They have lovely villas and you might get a discount for a late booking.
Are you doing the summer train from St Pancras to Avignon with a connecting train somewhere.

Most villas are not near a station. They are more remote. Can you hire a car.

Haven't booked trains yet Portofino but there was still spaces last night.

gin, I would be happy in a mobile home but unfortunately others in the group aren't!

Thanks for that cheer, I'll take a look. I've tried looking for a few gites on the same site but no luck so far in our budget.

ugg Thanks, I'll take a look. I've looked at a few trains and most seem to be London to Paris then to your destination. We're planning to hire a car once we're down there.

For various reasons (health, confidence etc) we can't all drive down there so thought it would be nice to get train together.

Are there kids on your group who might be ok in ready beds? We've got a 6 people villa for 2 weeks in Aug but for a portion of that there will be 8 of us there (friends who live in rural France are coming to stay). The two 8 year olds are camping in the living room in ready beds. Doing this does mean you need decent sized living space though

maybe not right in the south, but tbh, most of france will have good weather in august, and even if it's not by the sea, you will likely find local swimming lakes

Provence is also v expensive. For cheaper areas look at Languedoc, Midi Pyrenees, Lot et Garonne and Charente Maritime

The direct train from London can get booked up. You can go from London to Paris and then get the TGV from Lille to St Raphael. The price is fairly similar.

We always get the train and the direct summer train (Eurostar)is a great service. You can hire a car at Avignon (best to prebook). The drive down to the coast is motorway and an easy route.
Next year we are going to get the train to Paris, then a train to Barcelona, spend a week there and get the train back to the south of France, then a villa for 2 weeks. The dc love the train and it makes it an adventure.
