Anyone been to France with French Life holidays ?????

I'm considering booking a 10 night holiday in Charentee (sp ??) with French Life holidays. The holiday is s/c caravan with all gas, elec, ferry, bed linen e.t.c inluded.
The price i've been given is 298 for the whole thing. I agree it's a very good price especially as we would go in Whit week, but i'm wondering why it is sooo cheap.
Has anyone been ????????

Not don't it with them myself. TBH, most of the coravan/tend companies offer stuff of a similar standard, and we have never been disapointed. Try searching the campsite in other companies websites, it may give you more info.

I've heared of them if that helps

Hi Nutcracker

Yes we hired a villa in france while I was pregnant and I had a terrible time. It may have been my hormones playing up but we were told all the wrong information so by the time we got to the villa it took about 4 hours longer than they had said. When we arrived, there was no bedding, even though we had to pay extra, the villa was musty and full of cobwebs and when we rang to complain they put the phone down on us.

To make matters worse it rained for 2 weeks!!

Like I said we may have just been very unlucky but I guess it was cheap for a reason. I think they are quite popular so maybe we just drew the short straw but I wouldn't go with them again.

tiredemma · 27/03/2004 16:37

havn't been with thm but we use them a lot at work, can only say that yes they are reasonably priced, nothing sinister about it, they're a good company- dont worry about it. the manager often comes into our office (she's a bit mad) but they are a very popular company
if u need anymore info let me know!! x

ive just found one of there brochures in my kitchen cupboard, it says on it that all kids under 18 go free and that your return ferry crossing is free, which may explain why its so cheap!

nutcracker · 27/03/2004 21:36

Tired emma - Your right, kids under 18 are free and price includes ferry crossings too.
I should stop being sooo suspicious about things that seem to good to be true.

O.K the last time i went to France was when i was 13. What should the weather be like in June ??? Dp reckons i will have to walk around starkers, but i think he's just hoping

is it charente your going to? its in the same region as vendee, they have hot summers there and some of the beaches are beautiful, id say the weather will be nice in june.
ive got the brochure here if you want it, just email me at emmamike80athotmail.com and ill send it on to you.!! ( its a few seasons out of date but if i can get a more upto date one at work ill try!!)

hmb · 28/03/2004 08:24

my mate went to the Vendee a could of years running in June and they had good weather. It has a micro climate, and is similar to the South of France.

hmb · 28/03/2004 08:31

If you are going to the Vendee have a look at this website, it is excellent and gives you lots of regional facts and things to do.

Is it the Charente Maritime area near Bordeaux ? If so I went there on a french exchange (St Palais sur Mer, nr Royan) about 20 years ago in April and had great weather. Memories of long sandy beaches and wooded bike rides. There were wartime defences to visit along the coast too.

nutcracker · 28/03/2004 16:48

Oh good, no weather wories then.

Tiredemma - I've got a brochure, thanks anyway.
Have a quick question for you though.
When i told my dad that we were going, and that i had to get us all passports he said he wasn't sure that we needed them if we were going on the ferry. He reckoned that the last time he went he didn't have to show his passport to anyone.

Is that right ??

I think you'd need a passport for each person travelling. If you travelled by coach you'd probably have them checked en mass but most border points we've driven through expect them to be shown, even if it is just a wave of the covers and headcount. Don't chance it or you will lose your holiday. Also don't forget E111 and insurance for car.

nutcracker · 28/03/2004 17:12

Thanks Liz, i didn't think it was right. Thanks for reminding me about the E111 and car insurance, i'd completely forgotten about that.

I shall have to start a thread nearer the time, for hints and tips when traveling abroard.

Nutty

You definately need a passport - for everyone travelling!

We've been to France last 2 years with Keycamp - and both times passports were handed over and checked when leaving Poole and again when we were leaving Cherbourg.

nutcracker · 28/03/2004 17:30

Cheers Slinky. Don't know wher my dad got his info from .

Even if your passports are not checked as you enter France they will be checked as you re-enter Britain. You need them for everyone traveling
