Child vs Adult passports- pros and cons?

My DD will turn 16 in August and needs her passport renewing before we travel on holiday. She currently has a chid passport.
I could apply now for another child passport for her, which I assume would be valid until she's nearly 21 or could apply for her first adult one.
Aside from the fact that I will have to pay the premium fast track rate to get an adult passport as there will only be 2 weeks between her 16th birthday and our travel date, are there any other advantages or disadvantages to getting a child or adult passport?
What, if anything, can you do on an adult passport that you can't do on a child's?

I think she needs an adult passport.

Yep look like she needs an adult

I would apply for the adult one as at least it will then last for 10 years. You can apply before her birthday according to that link given above - as her birthday is in a few weeks. You would do it as an adult renewal as she already has a child passport

Thanks for yor advice, but the passport helpline has now told me that they will not accept an adult application until 2 weeks before her 16th birthday, in spite of the increased processing time at the moment.
As we travel 2 weeks after her birthday, this would give them 4 weeks to process and send the passport, and I don't think I can bear the stress of waiting to see if it arrives on time! The passport helpline advised me to apply for a child's, which won't be popular with DD, but will hopefully save any last minute trauma.
I know it will only last. 5 years but I still don't know if there's anything DD can't do on a child's that she could do on an adult's though?

oh well, so much for the website which said 'a few weeks' - which is not two in my book!

I don't think there's any difference in what she can 'do' on a child passport, as its function is only to provide ID for travel.

You get more years for your money if you buy an adult passport.
