Professional to sign passport pic?

Applying for dd's passport and I can't think of anyone I can ask to sign her picture? We moved into the area 2 years ago, but she went to secondary school after a year so hasn't known anyone for the two years required? Do people ever ask doctors for this and if so so do they charge? DD has only been a couple of times so not sure they'd want to anyway!!

Can you ask her teacher? You could probably add a note to explain that it is not the full 2 years required.

Smartiepants79 · 02/06/2014 21:53

Doctors do do it but fairly sure they charge.
Our Headteacher is always being asked.
Dentist?

WestmorlandSausage · 02/06/2014 21:53

doctors will do it but will charge, usually about £30.

Has she any kind of music teacher etc?

phoebeflangey · 02/06/2014 21:54

They're pretty strict on the two years I've been advised otherwise that was my plan perfect
Dentist is also new!

Do you have any family friends who could do it. Any kind of professionally qualified person.

Crikeyblimey · 02/06/2014 21:57

For a child's passport it is you the person has to have known for 2 years not the child.

ilovepowerhoop · 02/06/2014 21:58

are any of your neighbours nurses, in the police, work in the post office, teachers, etc, etc? I have used neighbours the last couple of times.

Our school has signs up saying not to ask teachers/head teacher to be passport countersignatories.

If its for a child passport then the person is signing to say they have known YOU for 2 years, not the child.

Just to reiterate If its for a child passport then the person is signing to say they have known YOU for 2 years, not the child

chocoshopoholic · 02/06/2014 21:59

I think GPs do charge as it's not NHS work. They also appear to have gone from list of examples. www.gov.uk/countersigning-passport-applications

My DH gets asked loads because he works in a bank, any friends in a professional role?
You can also ask a pub landlord, nurse, pharmacist, photographer

mummy1973 · 02/06/2014 22:01

Know anyone in army, navy, police?

Fridayschild · 02/06/2014 22:01

Passport office do spot checks on the people who sign the photos, so if you ask someone to "do you a favour" you are asking an awful lot. They will ring and ask questions about how long have you known so-and-so, when did you meet?

phoebeflangey · 02/06/2014 22:05

I've done this a couple of times as I am a nurse! Didn't even think of my neighbour, who is also a nurse?! How daft am I? Thanks mumsnetters, I actually paid for this last month but haven't sent it yet!
Do you recommend the post office send type thing? Not in a hurry, just for school trip possibly next Feb and want to be organised!

ilovepowerhoop · 02/06/2014 22:10

I didnt use check and send - they are just checking for mistakes, it doesnt speed up the time it takes to get the passport

p.s. my neighbour is also a nurse and countersigned for dd.

SueDNim · 02/06/2014 22:11

Could you ask her primary teacher/head teacher?

Otherwise any professional friends?

ilovepowerhoop · 02/06/2014 22:17

she's asking her neighbour who is a nurse, as they have to sign to say they know the mum/dad, not the child

phoebeflangey · 02/06/2014 22:28

Thankyou !!

if not sorted - many professional bodies also confer this power, so if you know any chartered engineers, physicists, perhaps business people they can certainly help.

Also you could try pharmacist. Last time I got doctor to do it but this time round they said none of the doctors do it anymore. I have a friend that's a nurse but he moved really far away so he was more of a last resort. I then remember that it was worth trying the pharmacy. I've known the manager since I moved here 6 years ago, he was on holiday but there's another pharmacist in there I've known in there for about 3 years and she said done it for me thankfully.
