Cabin baggage in Ryan Air - can anyone recommend something please?

It needs to measure 55x40x20 and be very lightweight.

I have a plethora of suitcases and bags here and none of them fits the bill. I'm going on a girls only long weekend and it's hand luggage only.

Has anyone got anything they can recommend that fits the bill. I know I'm not the first person to have been in this quandary.

TIA

Me, me! We own of these, they're not very comfortable to carry, but they're okay for short distances and they are exactly the right size. Which is actually 44 litres, which is loads, and only 21 litres less than my 'proper' rucksack.

It seems the more garish colours are currently cheaper...

We just got a lightweight Delsey case that fits ryanair's policy.

Thanks guys. Janek, that link doesn't work. Please Would you be able to try again?

Euro chick, thank you but I can't warrant spending that much on a case for one trip.

TK Maxx.
I got my cabin sized suitcase from there about 8 years ago and its still immaculate, gets used about 5 times a year. Its Antler but was a lot less than they retail elsewhere.

If any are labelled as being cabin sized dont just take their word for it, sometimes they can be a good few inches too big and its not worth being caught out!

mckenzie · 01/06/2014 18:01

Thanks mswibble. I'll try there first before buying online then.

We've got this one: Ikea's cabin bag, £12 with a family card www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90241142/
It packs flat to store at home too.
Assembled size
Length: 34 cm
Width: 20 cm
Height: 48 cm

Onykahonie · 01/06/2014 20:53

Btw, make sure you add an external luggage label, if you get one, as several others had the same case on our flight, but it had to go in the hold (was never weighed or measured either!) Hmm

mswibble · 01/06/2014 22:04

They have started specifying the first 90 cases are guaranteed into the cabin and their new thing seems to be randomly picking peoples carry on luggage and ask them to put it in the hold. If you can I would try and resist this, they dont check when you're past the gate. Rip off the yellow strip they attach to the handle.

They did it to me when flying back from Dublin the other week. I let them put it in the hold and was most peeved to find there was plenty of room in the overhead lockers. Plus I was waiting at the carousel in Manchester for nearly 40mins whilst the baggage handlers got their arses into gear.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 01/06/2014 22:06

Ryanair have changed their hand baggage policy lately. Their bag measurer thingy is bigger than the measurements so you can get away with a standard small suitcase, and you can also take a handbag on top. Much easier than it used to be.

colourcloudburst · 01/06/2014 22:09

I recently bought one of these from Matalan. There's £10 off at the moment. It is the perfect size for virtually all airlines (Flybe/Ryanair etc) and carries lots in it.

ChippyMinton · 02/06/2014 22:24

Ryanair's depth is only 20cm, smaller than other airlines. The Ikea case is perfect.

Janek · 03/06/2014 11:27

So's my rucksack! (See link above!)

Hersetta427 · 03/06/2014 15:00

I have a cabin max rucksack with wheels which i use when visiting my parents in spain with ryanair. it is very lightweight and fits loads in.

InspirationFailed · 03/06/2014 15:04

We have just flown Ryanair and I used a small sized suitcase from Sports Direct. I managed to fit clothes for my 2 youngest children into it, it was pretty big.

They put it in the hold on the way back though, didn't matter to much as I took a rucksack with me as carry on luggage with drinks etc in it and just kept it down by my feet.

CookieB · 03/06/2014 16:10

Do you have a B&M near you? I got slightly smaller than average hand luggage from there this morning for a bargain £9.99!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 03/06/2014 16:11

I got a one from Primark (naff leopard print but fits the bill) and just made sure I was quick to board to make sure I had a space for it.

mckenzie · 03/06/2014 16:56

Thanks for all the posts. I've got a rucksack type hold all now, as recommended by Janek (thank you).
Fingers crossed I'll get there early enough to be allowed to have my bag with me. Not because I'm precious about it, just because I want to get going at the other end.

Sports direct do cheap Dunlop ones which are ideal.

Madamecastafiore · 03/06/2014 21:54

They are starting to make passengers put the trolley suitcase things in the hold now after so many have been put on. So go for a carry on bag rather than small wheels case thing.

AlpacaLypse · 03/06/2014 21:55

We bought incredibly light cases from Asda last summer, they're bang on 20x40x50. They pull along easily, and have so far survived four trips without any sign of wear and tear. £25.

Life's much easier now Ryanair have given in about handbags though. I have a nice strong Bag For Life folded into my handbag, I pull that out and stuff the handbag itself and any other odds and ends and my duty frees when I go through the gate.
