Disneyland Paris - just how expensive is it to eat there??

Hi
First time of posting here and I'm hoping you lovely people can help me out.

We have booked a 5 day stay at Disneyland Paris this summer and am trying to budget. I have heard that the food is really expensive and have accepted this (ish!) and was wondering if anyone can suggest just how much it will cost to feed us. It'll be me, dh, dd1 (6) and dd2 (4).

We have breakfast included at the hotel but that's it.
Any advice welcome, other than the potential cost we are really excited!

It varies, quite a bit.

You can pay for meals in advance, which reduces cost a bit, but are limited to either a set menu or topping up the voucher value to go a la carte. I think you can only add this if you've booked to stay in a Disney or partner hotel.

There is a mcdonalds and a sandwich place in the Disney village. There are a couple of shops and a sandwich place in the train station.

There is a huge supermarket and a number of restaurants at val d'europe, which is one stop on the train. Cheaper than the Disney restaurants.

The www.dlrpmagic.com/planning/dining/restaurant-menus/ website is helpful on the food issue.

Generally though the Disney food is very expensive for the quality.

MuttonCadet · 01/06/2014 15:19

It's not the price that's the issue it's the quality - really, really poor for France. I agree with the suggestion of going a couple of train stops and eating out. Cheaper and much nicer.

We used the buffets in the park so that there was always something the dcs would eat. About 100 euro for 2 adults 2dc.
You must book a table in advance tho otherwise the wait is a good few hours.

smiler75 · 01/06/2014 15:28

Thanks for the replies, gives me a few options to think about. I have been trawling the Disney website but they seem to conveniently forget to mention the price!

If the hotel you are staying has a restaurant which serves a buffet dinner then I highly recommend getting the half board vouchers. We have been twice and both times we filled up on the buffet breakfast and then had buffet dinner. During the day we found we needed/had time for very little other than the odd cereal bar/apple which we took with us in our luggage. Children were 4yrs, and 9 months the first time and 11 and 7 the second time.

For an all you can eat buffet for 2 adults and 2 children you will be looking at €70-80 minimum plus more for extra drinks. I'd recommend this as DC/adults can all choose something the like or go back for something different and eat unlimited puddings

For a fast food type meal around €40-50, but really not brilliant quality (French don't really 'get' fast food IME)

Proper sit down restaurants are usually more expensive as are meals where characters visit your table. It is also worth bearing in mind that the table service is not terribly fast and you should allow at least 2 hours for a meal, which may not suit small children or cut into your precious ride time Grin

I can't really comment much on places to eat lunch as like a PP said I tend to just take snacks etc. into the park to be eaten while queuing or while having a rest in a quiet spot. This added to filling up on a big breakfast and booking an earlyish (6pm is early in France) dinner works well for us.

magentastardust · 02/06/2014 17:33

Around 100Euro to 150 Euro for family of four.

Snacky sandwich lunches can soon add up at around 40euro's too. If you can cope with fast food for a few days it is a cheaper option.

There is a Macdonalds in the village and hotdog stands. Also Annettes diner does take away pizzas.

Half board vouchers normally work out cheaper.

We usually hire a car at the Airport and drive to DLP so stop off at the supermarket for lunchtime snacks/drinks to take into the parks with us for during the day.

Go to the food court in the shopping centre over the motorway.
Loads of choice and as a family of 5 we pay about half what we would pay in Disneyland and it's much much nicer!

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 07/06/2014 12:26

We had half board vouchers for a four day stay. On top of that, we spent about 250 - 300 euros for lunches for two adults and two kids: Annette's one day, Rainforest Cafe another and the other two in the parks. Food was OK in the village, ropey in the parks.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 07/06/2014 12:28

Sorry, possibly less than 300 - trying to add up now!

We stayed off site for two seperate weeks last year - we had annual passes. Would definitely recommend stocking up at Val d'Europe and taking food in with you - we saw people eating picnic stuff everywhere and have snacks on hand can be a great way of keep DCs amused while waiting for rides, parades and fireworks.

The best meal we had in DLP was at Agrabah, which is an all you can eat buffet. Was quite expensive but the food was nice and we felt we got good value. Cafe Hyperion awful. There's a nice muffin shop on Main St if you want something expensive to keep you going Grin.

In the village we liked Rainforest Cafe (a last night treat) and Earl of Sandwich and a friend who's just got back thought Annette's was good. It's worth eating early as many of the Village restaurants had queues out the door by 7.30

DH and I thought cafe mickey was dreadful, but DSs thought it was amazing. If you have to go, definitely book in advance before you leave UK - very easy using numbers on drlpmagic website

kezziesinclair · 23/06/2014 17:37

I am in dlp now and we went to eat in disney village at sports bar for kids chic nuggets and chips was 8 euro and adult hotdog and chips was 10 euro for a glass of juice near 4 euro and a pint is near 7 euro other places for food are dearer and not worth the price... there is a mcds in dv big mac meal 7 euro and happu meal 4 euro lopk like that where I will b eating rest of holiday

smiler75 · 24/06/2014 20:28

Thanks for all the responses...am formulating a plan thanks to all your wisdom! Will definitely be making a stop at Val d'Europe to stock up on snacks for the days, then I won't feel so bad about spending in the evening. Think the buffet options will suit us best (two fairly fussy eaters and one's my dh!!) I feel I know what to expect now so no nasty suprises. Hope you have a great time Kezzie despite the prices, enjoy your Mcds ;)

We had buffet breakfast at hotel, buffet dinner at intentions at Disneyland hotel is actually decent food and characters come round throughout the meal so of did that every night. Had a crepe or similar cheap for lunch and took cereal cars, crisps, breadsticks, dried fruit etc with us. Have a great time, book restaurants in advance.

Heels99 · 25/06/2014 12:03

Inventions that should have been, not intentions.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 27/06/2014 20:16

We were really impressed with the hotel food in Sequoia Lodge - wasn't expecting much as it was a buffet, but the range was great and it was actually decent. And there were vegetables - after a day in the park, I was beginning to think there was a world shortage!

angelohsodelight · 07/07/2014 06:50

I seem to remember a standard meal in MacD was about £8 quid ...., food prices are very very high.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 07/07/2014 06:57

We had huge breakfast, took fruit and rolls for lunch, and then buffet tea at 4pm ish. We found going out of resort to eat cut into our precious ride time too much.

Have fun!
