with 2 teenagers and s/c

I think taking money on a pre loaded card as main spending money, say about £1000 in euros, then taking the halifax credit card thats good to use abroad, then taking euros in cash, maybe about £200 worth

does that sound ok?

I've never been to spain, have no idea when we would need cash in euros (for the bus, local food, ice creams? but just guessing here!)

any advice welcome!!

Admitting its been years since I've been but what you have said seems ample. We found food prices were pretty cheap and alcohol/cigs. the most money spent would prob be activities if you are doing any, waterparks, banana boat rides etc

If you are cooking yourself that's sounds fairly good to me.

Some people do bring meat but I wouldn't. It's a long time from departure to arrival.

There is bound to be nice bread rolls etc available locally. I found food was fairly reasonable. Lovely salads Etc.

Tea bags, toiletries etc will bring the shopping cost don for you.

Food wise I'd just take some coffee/sugar/tea/salt sachets and get the rest there. Sausages would be rank after hours in a suitcase? ( unless you're taking up suitcase space with coolers?)

ssd · 01/06/2014 10:03

yes sausages are a bad idea, I should have realised that!

please don't take food beyond tea, coffee, sugar, salt, spices.

the local produce will be so much better than the stuff you can get in the UK. It won't look as good but it will TASTE.

We generally spend around E75-80 a day to include SC breakfast and lunch, and eating out for main meal each night for 4 of us inc 2 teens. It all depends on where you go and what sort of things you like to eat of course. We just have a main course and drinks, but obviously a 3 course meal each night would push up your budget.
Have a look on Tripadvisor for restaurants in the area to get an idea of prices.
Here's the website for one of the major supermarket chains (to get an idea of prices): www.compraonline.grupoeroski.com/supermercado/home.jsp

We found prices were generally slightly lower than in the UK for food and drink.

Marmite!!! (If you like it) it's even more expensive abroad. Also, even though mine are teens they still drink gallons of squash. I always find it difficult to find in the supermarkets so this year I'm taking those Robinsons Squash'd pouches - wonderful, tiny little invention!!
Other than that, salt/pepper/sugar/hot choc sachets, tea bags, enough to tide you over!
Last year in Spain we spent around 1,000 euros in 10 days, including all food/drink for the villa, eating out every other night, hiring pedaloes a couple of times, a visit to some caves and a few games of tennis at the local club. We didn't go mad, but we certainly didn't scrimp on anything; it's not always as expensive as you think! As smelly said, it's the trips to waterparks/watersports that cost.

thanks again

thats a great idea, to go into trip advisor to see local restaurants in the area, I hate being ripped off for food, so it would be great to have an idea where to go! also the link to the supermarket is interesting.

3cats, our money will go on visiting the nou camp (groan), and waterparks (another groan)!
