Taking a birthday cake to gran canaria?!

We go next month and DS will be 6 while we are away. Sadly, the hotel want 50 euro for a cake so I am thinking about taking one of the caterpillar cakes from the supermarket with me.

I know about liquids but food seems to be ok for the canaries but wondered if anyone here knew for sure?

Thanks.

Surely you can just go to a supermarket in Gran Canaria!? Foregt the hotel cake for 50 euros, just go and buy whatever people who live in Gran Canaria buy when it's a child's birthday! I would seriously not want to be worrying about some £6 cake getting trashed/melting/dropping etc...there are enough other things to worry about whilst traveling with kids!!

Just a thought but M and S have international stores including in Gran Canaria - could you pick one up out there? Not sure about food regulations, but don't know if a cake would survive the journey??

Our holiday location is quite remote and I don't want to get there and have to find a cake iykwim but possibly the easiest option! Thanks.

They sell cakes in Gran Canaria

Why on earth would you do this ? Confused

Crutchlow35 · 27/05/2014 19:30

As I have said, I would need to find somewhere in the first morning and I'd rather not have to do that. I appreciate it isn't may be how you would do things but I only asked if there are food restrictions into the canaries!

Anyfucker you always say what I think but in fewer words Grin

Spanish cake shops are lush!

However, there will be British businesses out there too. Agree that heat and supermarket cake (holds nose WinkWinkWinkWink) are not a good combination.

jamtoast12 · 27/05/2014 19:39

Tbh I don't think it's sound mad at all! I've been the canaries loads and unless is a very busy resort I've never noticed birthday cakes and certainly not actual cake shops!

BananaPie · 27/05/2014 19:46

I've taken food to all sorts of places as hand luggage and never had any problems. I think it will be fine.

Agree that buying one there might be easier than trying to stop it getting squash en route though!

AnyFucker · 27/05/2014 19:54

Caterpillar cakes are crap anyway

I bet your 6yo would love a Spanish cake.

I also bet that if went to a restaurant and tod them it was your kid's birthday, they would bring a cake out for free and make a hooooge fuss of him

AnyFucker · 27/05/2014 19:55

if you went

I took a sainsburys hedgehog cake to France a few years ago for DS no problem. We were skiing, small resort we know well, so I knew I coding source or make a cake in the next few hours after arriving and he really wanted this specific cake.

It was quite a pain to keep flat constantly though and I haven't bothered again!

poocatcherchampion · 27/05/2014 22:36

Take one. In your luggage. If it gets wrecked you have a back up plan of cake mush and a laugh or looking in a shop.

I took one in my hold luggage to Egypt once to visit my sister. not a caterpillar
