Going to Seashore holiday camp on Thursday for a few days - me, my 9-year-old DD and my 4-year-old Godson.

Last time I went was in my teens (a long time ago!) so any pointers on places to go would be greatly appreciated!

Only been to the racecourse. I thought the town was sad. Try and go to Norwich.

MillyMollyMama · 26/05/2014 21:39

Or a trip on the Fens.

A boat trip on the Broads is fun

I've been to seashore. We had a lovely time. Great Yarmouth is nice, if a very typical seaside resort. Very tacky, lots of amusements that kind of thing. Lovely hot doughnuts :) the sea life centre is nice but small, try and get some money off coupons before you go .. try googling it, a few might come up. Harry ramsdens fish and chips (almost opposite sea life centre) is really lovely if a bit pricey.

If you can go down the coast to southwold. Much more traditional old fashioned seaside. Very pretty and quieter. Lowestoft is a mixture of the two really.

Norwich is well worth a visit. Make sure you visit the castle. Some interesting exhibitions. Pizza express at the forum is lovely. You can sit by the window and look out onto the square and see the church and the cathedral.

For villages Wymondham and Diss are nice to visit. Banham zoo near Diss / Attleborough is very nice.

Have fun.

GY typical seaside resort as other posters have said. If the weather is ok and you want a quieter resort, try Gorleston, over the river. For things to do, Time and Tide museum in GY is fab. Slightly further afield, Bewilderwood (15 miles), Fritton Lake (6 miles or so), Africa Alive (12 miles approx), Pleasurewood Hills (10 miles).

If you have the cash the indoor circus at the hippodrome, just behind the Circus Circus arcade on the front is really good, but you might need to book in advance in the holidays.

The pleasure beach is good for kids rides.

At the end of the seafront where the pier is, there is a road up to the town centre that has the usual seaside gift shops but has a shop where you can watch rock being made.

Further afield the zoo at Kessingland is good, and pleasurewood hills is worth a day too.

Hiring a boat on the broads is good fun, but you might want to take some games/books to keep the kids amused.

Kessingland Zoo has nice comforting feel to its name. I often revert to calling it that!

We love the area. It's great with kids. As pp posters have said Gorelston is brill - free parking there is a pirate play park on the cliffs And really easy to park there. Walk down the slope to the beach and there is a paddling pool (does anyone know if it's filled as it wasn't in August last year) this is sheltered and great for floating boats. There is a small parade of shops - food reasonable prices. great ice creams. An arcade. Keep walking around the front more arcades and you can crab over the harbour wall - more for older kids here as the wall is high. Africa alive is excellent for a day out - head towards the land train and have a ride around. In great Yarmouth mine love the model village (my kids are a little younger the eldest is 6) - after the model village you go into an old fashioned penny arcade ( you can go into this through the tea room even if you don't go into the model village) for £1 you can have 15 Old Penny's to play with, next to it is a more modern arcade small and quiet with enough 2p machines to allow a few pound to take a while to be spent. If parking go inland from the main strip and you can park for free. There is a land train that goes all along the front. Lowestoft is also nice for beach, ice cream etc there is a large leisure pool on the front. Get vouchers for sea life - just inside the entrance they had a leaflet for 2 for 1 entry - this was 3 weeks ago - I saw it after I'd paid online....have fun. It is traditional bucket and spade fun and great for kids. X
