Where should we go? It has to be during the Easter holidays so between 3rd and 19th April. We want water and sunshine and a relatively economical time (so all-inclusive for the price - seems unlikely to me - or somewhere that is not too expensive when we get there).

I'd love to go somewhere further afield but am aware that flights would make up a huge part of the cost if we went longhaul. Would we make it to Cyprus for that price? Or Thailand? That's where I'd really like to go, but imagine it may be a) too expensive and b) a political nightmare.

Dubai can be as cheap as you like? They have Premier Inns too from £39 a night, despite what others have said, food isn't expensive. Alcohol is mind, but you can have a blast.

notnowImreading · 25/05/2014 10:26

Really? I hadn't expected that at all. I thought it would be all Sheikhs and oil millions. I love a bit of desert. Interesting idea, thank you.

Any other suggestions? Will put them all to my friend.

How about the well used suggestion of a cruise. Plenty of good deals including wine packages. Southern Europe ,Canaries ,Tunisa will all be nice weather.
You might even get a fly cruise to the States if you can wait for the good deals. Cruise Critc is Tripadvisor's sister site with lots of info on getting the right destination/ ship etc.

notnowImreading · 25/05/2014 17:45

This is so interesting - the ideas suggested here are utterly different from what I might have come up with on my own. I don't know whether I fancy a cruise but I'd like to keep an open mind. Thank you!

Florida or Mexico might be in reach. Just about. Prices might be high if this is the school holidays though. Egypt?

notnowImreading · 26/05/2014 08:05

I don't think we would make it to Florida or Mexico - unless they do cheap last minute deals, in which case if be very interested indeed! I checked out some prices online and it looked about £15-1700 for those destinations.

My friend's children will be with their father so she will miss them and I can't have any so ideally we would prefer somewhere that is not full of little ones.

Have a look at Travelzoo and it will give you an idea of what's around and the cost. They often have deals a year in advance which will give you an idea of what you can get for your £££. I wouldn't rule out Mexico as have seen some TZ deals for around £999 all inclusive.

Ooohhh...

There would definitely be self catering under £1000 each in Barbados or St Lucia. Virgin have quite a lot. AI is more.

ShineSmile · 26/05/2014 22:15

What do you want to do on holiday? Just lounge around or sightseeing too?

If its just lounging, you could get an all inclusive top luxury 5 star hotel in sharm el sheikh for example, within that budget.

TheFairyCaravan · 26/05/2014 22:17

Boa Vista, Cape Verde.

DH and I went this year at the end of March/beginning of April. It was hot and sunny, but breezy. The hotel was gorgeous, the people are lovely and the beaches are stunning.

There isn't really anything to do other than sunbathe and read. There are a few trips round the island on quad bikes and 4X4s if you want to do it. I came back so relaxed.

blossomblowing · 26/05/2014 22:21

i would have said Miami, or barcelona, but cape verde sounds perfect, where did you stay Fairy? tell me more

notnowImreading · 27/05/2014 13:02

ShineSmile I'm very intrigued by the idea of 5 luxury - I've never been anywhere 5 before. Does Egypt feel safe in Sharm? I've been anxious about the political situation but I've heard that Sharm El Sheikh is like a separate world - is that true?

ShineSmile · 27/05/2014 15:23

It is very safe. I've been looking at the hotel that is 2nd best voted on trip advisor.

notnowImreading · 27/05/2014 15:24

Have you been before? I'm just looking now and wondered if you had any particular recommendations. I'll check out trip advisor now.

You'll get all inclusive somewhere lovely on one of the Greek islands for that. Kefalonia, Kos, Rhodes. Mmmmm. Nice.

notnowImreading · 27/05/2014 15:36

I'd love Greece - have spent a lot of happy time there - but it's basically shut until late May in most places! I've never found a great Greece deal at Easter and the weather can be a bit iffy in April apparently. I might just have a little look anyway though, just in case something lovely has slipped through the net.

fairy my sister went to Cape Verde this spring and came back burnt to a crisp and bored out of her mind. She's a 25 year old ginger, though - it might just be perfect for two 38 year old brunettes.

notnow DH and I went for our 20th wedding anniversary. We hadn't been away on our own since we had our kids, so the fact that there was nothing to do other than lie back, read, eat and drink was bliss for us.

The sun is very strong, you have to use a very high factor sun cream. I did burn on my feet, but have since found out that it was one of the suncreams that was branded a waste of time recently. When we were there, the reps stressed you would burn through the clouds, people didn't listen and they did!

notnowImreading · 27/05/2014 16:18

I have to say that it does sound like bliss to me too! Glad you had a lovely holiday.

SqueezedMiddle · 27/05/2014 21:37

I've just hd an all inclusive week in a 4 star hotel in Kos for 500 quid. It was absolute fucking bliss. I cant tell ya! Full of Germans and Scandis (prefer that to Brits abroad to be honest) and blazing hot every day (despite being told it would be average 22 degrees...more like 30. It was lovely. LOVELY.

notnowImreading · 27/05/2014 21:45

I'm very jealous right now! It sounds fantastic.

I'm going to say Cape Verde too. I've just had a look and you can have a week in the 5* all inclusive resort we go to for £1025 each. Here- www.firstchoice.co.uk/holiday/packages?airports%5B%5D=&units%5B%5D=042051%3AHOTEL&when=07-04-2015&until=&flexibility=true&flexibleDays=3&noOfAdults=2&noOfSeniors=0&noOfChildren=0&childrenAge=&duration=7114&first=0&searchRequestType=ins&sp=true

If all you want to do is relax, it's perfect. We're off there again in a few months :)
