Chester for an afternoon

We are staying at a hotel near Chester (child free Smile) tomorrow night. DH and pal are golfing so thought the girls might have a drive into Chester for the afternoon, have some lunch and a wander around. Any suggestions of where to eat and where to go would be welcome.

Tropeiro is a Brazilian and lovely for lunch, or Duttons near the Cathedral. You could have a walk along the walls or the obvious shopping Grin

Thank you. Is it usual high street stuff? Any famous, shouldn't miss while you are there sort of things to see/do?

Definately Duttons :-) or the Grosvenor for afternoon tea if you want to splash out. There is a lovely chocolate shop in the Grosvenor centre. You can seenut accross the road from new look. Then there is the yankee candle shop, lush, paperchase, boden, fat face, next etc etc Wink i love Chester. Proud to say I was born there!!

Tomorrow it's the Brook Street Carnival in Chester Smile.

For informal eating, my current favourites are Marmalade in Northgate, and Zuger's on St John's Street.

On a nice day, the open top bus tours are actually a lot of fun (picking up outside the town hall), and the walls walk is about 2.5 miles. I don't think the boat tour is worth it, but there's often a band playing by the river on Sundays in summer.

For nice weather too, the Eaton Estate is open tomorrow, so you could go and see how the other half live Grin. I love to go, the gardens are beautiful and you can take a picnic if you fancy!

I was just going to say there is a carnival on tomorrow.

They do cruises up the river or its nice to walk round the Roman ruins. We usually find a little cafe slongvthecriverside.

The shops are a nice mixture with some independents.

Thank you. I thought it was a Roman town. Unfortunately it's going to tip it down tomorrow afternoon so it might be lunch then back to hotel!
