If he's applying for his first adult passport then I understand he'll need an interview?

dnna21 · 24/05/2014 02:46

its his first adult passport yes but ive read in places that if hes had a 5 year standard child passport issued before he is 16 he will not need a interview

As he's renewing he can apply for Premium or Fast Track www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently

jamtoast12 · 24/05/2014 07:59

Yes int can get in one day or one week. I'd recommend premium as you can wait a week or so just for an appointment? I got mine in 2 hours!

thank you he was thinking of using the post office check and send because it says allow 3 weeks and he hasnt booked a flight and he think he may be able to be a day or two late

what he would like to know is the service reliable?

Ignore the 3 weeks claim. It is not accurate.

Apparently there is a huge backlog at the passport office in Durham, everyone is doing overtime to try to clear it but it will take longer than usual to get passports back. People have not bothered to renew passports over the last few years but as the economy is improving people are going abroad again and this has led to a huge increase in the workload at the passport offices.

Fingers crossed that your son's passport arrives in time Smile

BTW the post office check and send won't speed things up, as long as he has completed the form correctly it would take the same amount of time. What he should do is pay for a fast track service at the passport office, this will prioritise the application. Put in a covering letter explaining when he is travelling.

I have just received my renewal and DD's first adult passport (she has previously had child passports) back in 15 days, so they can be processed quickly.
