Any holiday childcare that's not divided into age groups?

Apart from a private nanny ( a bit out of my price range)
Just wondering if anywhere does this. I have a 2yr and 6yr old, neither of which would go into a kids club/ crèche alone. But would happily go off together.
Would just like a little bit of relaxing time on holiday really.
Any ideas appreciated Smile

I cannot think of a single holiday we have had where a 2 year old and a 6 year old would be together. Surely your 6 year old goes off to school without the 2 year old? They must be separated every day at home so why not on holiday? Make it sound really exciting for the 6 year old. Fun things to do, new friends and activities etc. Does your 2 year old go to nursery? If so, a crèche is not that different but should have a higher staffing ratio than that required for 6 year olds. My 6 year old would have hated being with a 2 year old. She was way too advanced for that! Try and get them to see themselves as individuals with different activities put on specially for their age group. This is your chance to have a bit of time so work on your children gaining confidence. They really should not need to go together. They will both love it. Ours couldn't go often enough!

have a friend who does this work abroad. they don't exist because the law requires different staff ratios for different ages. if they were 2 years apart you might get lucky as they get older but not with 4 years. they will have to go into different groups but just make sure the kids clubs are on at the same time as some places do littleys in the morning then older in the afternoon. they can go off together just not be together all the time.

Yes I find this annoying too. My DC are very close and although hey happily go off to school seperately and have their own friends it would be nice for them to spend time together in the holidays. Sadly I haven't found anywhere they doesn't split them up yet. Mine are closer in age though so hopefully we will get to that point soon!

I don't think it's that strange a request. Obviously the 6yr old goes to school without the 2yr old, and copes fine. But they adore each other and love hanging out together ( which I think is great!)
I've tried crèches before but DS is having none of it, ( he doesn't go to nursery) and last year we made sure we went somewhere with good childcare ( Porto Sani) and DD then 5 went to the kids club twice and hated it. She had no probs making friends around the pool and was happy to play with them there but even when those kids went to kids club she didn't want to go.
Maybe I need to save up for a nanny Grin

I would call and check with the hotels, my eldest daughter has joined in with the younger age group before without any problems, she loved it because she helped the younger ones, including her sister with the activities, but I guess it depends on whether your 6 year old would be happy doing this.

My dd's are older now, but last year in Majorca there was no problem with my younger dd joining in with the teenagers club, even though she was only 11, the club was advertised as 13-17 year olds.

That's handy to know, thanks kslatts. Dd is only just 6, and quite young for her age so she'd probably be quite happy with the younger ones.

Do kids clubs run for age 2? I found the earliest was 4 when we looked but that is a few years ago now.

Coveredinweetabix · 25/05/2014 13:28

We did a Thompson holiday last year when the creche (0-36mths) took our almost 4yo as well as our 9mo. We had to pay for both of them whereas, if she had gone to the kids' club, it would have been free. We were happy to do so as it meant she would go. We've also done a MW holiday during term time when, due to the very small number of children in the resort, they amalgamated the different groups for many of the sessions just keeping the under 1s by themselves. I have a feeling that MW evening sessions may be under 3s together & over 3s together which could work for you next year.

Thanks Coveredinweetabix, I was thinking about Mark Warner. I guess my ideal scenario would be where nannies at the resort have a group of children for the week and will take mixed ages. ( I got this idea from MW - where the same nanny has a small group of babies/ very young ones for the duration of their holiday. Seems like a good idea, as opposed to going to a large kids club. I'm sure it would be costly however.

Some hotels are quite happy to mixed ages when they are older, but not at two.

Thomson's are annoyingly strict. They are also H&S mad and keep the DCs in doors, or under a tree. My DDs much preferred the mixed age lets play pool game hotel reps.run club.

The thing is, it's my two yr old that I could do with a break from! The staff were lovely in the crèche last year but he wasn't having any of it. Tbh I'm prob better off staying at home for the next few years!

You would be better off getting your 2 year old into a nursery so you can have a peaceful holiday with no separation angst. I loved every minute my children were in holiday clubs. I had them for the rest of the year. Why are your children clinging to each other on holiday? Mine are 3 years apart in age but saw themselves as individuals. They are fond of each other but not attached to each other.

WeevilKnievel · 25/05/2014 21:40

My children just seem to be rather inclined towards clinginess! Being a sahm I haven't had to put DS into nursery, though he starts pre school in sept. DD -6 enjoys school but would rather be at home. I guess having each other to be with just makes it a bit more palatable for them.

I would swear there is no such thing. Under 3s will always be separate. Apart from the staff/child ratio, most 6 yos would not want to be doing activities for 2 yos. Maybe one of the large gite complexes where they have on site child minders might work? I think of Country Kids - though that is extremely pricey. Or Pagel?

WeevilKnievel · 25/05/2014 22:27

I looked at country kids - it looked great, though starting at 8,500€ for a week ( bound by school holidays ) it's out of our league, - not to mention fully booked for the summer. But yes I think somewhere like that may well be more flexible.
Will have a look at Pagel, thank you.
