Family travel insurance - advice please!

Spurred on by threads on mumsnet about families not being able to travel due to chickenpox, I've been actually reading my travel insurance quotes before booking one this year - and it us not clear to me at all whether they would pay out if a doctor said a dc couldn't travel.
Also, could they say one parent was enough to stay at home with the sick one, and make the other travel on? (On a driving holiday in Europe: not something I would want either of us doing without the other!)

If anyone knows of a good, family-friendly policy please tell me - or am I being over-cautious and would most policies pay out for this?

Thanks

I'm not sure why you'd need to cancel for chicken pox? Kids can easily travel with it I would have thought? You don't even need to take kids the doctors for chicken pox? I'd ignore any doctor who said I wouldn't travel!

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't travel while dcs were infectious with cp as I wouldn't have them out and about at all at that time (as I wouldn't want to potentially harm anyone pregnant or even kill someone with a compromised immune system)
No reason to think they'll have it, holiday not till end of June! But have spent more than usual this year and would be gutted to miss out.

We use LV's premium policy. Not sure whether it covers cp, but it's pretty comprehensive. We take out an annual family policy. Maybe worth a look Smile

Thanks Rainbow, will do Smile

Take a look at online reviews of individual insurance policies/companies. I did that recently before buying. One thing struck me: the very cheapest policies were offered by companies whose names frequently came up on the list of poor reviews - i.e. companies which routinely declined simple claims - let alone complicated ones. The ultra cheap ones were difficult even on basics - contacting just to make a claim.

Thank you, just started looking through reviews tonight Thanks
I looked up reviews on MSE of the top family cover insurer listed in Which? - terrible reviews!
