Teenage DD & DS sharing a hotel room - till what age?

Just that really. At what age, if any, do you think it's inappropriate for them to share a room.

They are too big for us to all bunk up in a family room now - DH and I like our space and quiet.

But as I sit on t'interweb booking this summer's holidays I wonder if there is a point at which people think Hmm about a brother and a sister sharing.

Or am I just over thinking it?

IMO while Bank of Dad is still paying for the holidays, they can just put up and shut up Smile

You're over thinking it. Particularly if there is an ensuite to allow for private changing.

ajandjjmum · 18/05/2014 16:04

My DC are in their early twenties, and still share a room if necessary. They're perfectly free to pay for another room if they ever have a problem with this! Grin

bigTillyMint · 18/05/2014 16:05

Ours are 13 and 14 and are fine together. No problems with privacy as they change separately.

jasminemai · 18/05/2014 16:08

Im 30 and brother is late 20s and we still do. Why on earth is that weird? Confused

ClashCityRocker · 18/05/2014 16:11

As long as they have somewhere to go to get changed, shouldn't be an issue - certainly, it wasn't for me and my brother.

That said, could be awkward if the elder is at drinking age and the younger not - I know dh shared at 14 with his 18 yo DB....woken up at all hours to DB vomiting in the bathroom!

I think it also depends on if the teenagers are comfortable with it. If there are massive issues, I might have a rethink, or have one sleep in the lounge or something.

Bowlersarm · 18/05/2014 16:11

I think it's the normal thing for siblings to share at any age.

WoodBurnerBabe · 18/05/2014 16:12

Until forever. As long as privacy for changing. Why would it be weird?

BiscuitCrumb · 18/05/2014 16:18

I'd share with my brother now if we holidayed together - we are in our 30s. So long as there's a bathroom and separate beds I see no problem.

beccajoh · 18/05/2014 16:21

Don't see why it'd be weird. My brother and I shared a room whilst my parents were paying for the hols.

CQ · 18/05/2014 18:07

Yep, I pretty much agree with all of you.

Was just the surprised tone from one receptionist when I was booking, got me thinking.

I shared a room with my bro on a family holiday when I was 21 him 25.

MrsDavidBowie · 18/05/2014 19:48

God I would hate to share with my brother. We go on holiday for a week just the two of us, and always have separate hotel rooms.
Have always done separate rooms for kids from 13 ish too.

Nocomet · 18/05/2014 19:52

A lot of hotels are (at least officially) fussy about under 18's of either sex having a room without adults.

In practice the chambermaids must know and no one complains.

bigTillyMint · 18/05/2014 20:56

We just book as one adult and one child in each roomWink

homebythesea · 19/05/2014 08:30

We did sharing till 13/11 but they both felt awkward about it after that and so we now rarely do hotels and find villas /apartments far better and cheaper and everyone gets their own space and privacy. I remember being excruciatingly embarrassed to share with my 16 yr old brother at age 13 so had every sympathy

lazypepper · 21/05/2014 09:06

I would say if you are paying for their holiday, then they can share.

It must work out very expensive if you were having to pay for 3 separate rooms each time.

As said upthread - they can change privately n the bathroom. I haven't had to share a room with my brother since i was a small child - but i suppose if i were getting a free holiday i would. Even now - and we are in our 40s Grin

We tend to holiday in villas now - so that DS and DSS don't have to share a room. Lucky boys. However we do drive to our destination - so tend to stop off a hotels en route - we make them share a room then - as i won't pay for them to have a room each.
