So, we are thinking all inclusive is our best chance for me and Dh to have a hope of relaxing on hols, with the DCs (4 & 7)
However, totally new to this game and have done a quick look on teletext hols to see what kind of money we are talking about .
There are some hols coming up (for 7 nights) as cheap as 400 per person, during August. I assume that you get what you pay for with this kind of thing and they will be dire?
I'm no snob but I would like it to be clean, family friendly and the food to be of a reasonable standard.
What should I expect to pay ?
3 - will it be dreadful ? Should I look at minimum of 4?
What should I try and avoid ? What locations should I avoid ?
Where is too hot for children in August ?

The food is a massive part of a holiday for us as well. I would have thought that unless you are paying top prices the food you get at an AI compound would be pretty average. Also, OH and I enjoy a nice bottle of wine. I'm not sure how nice the wine would be if it was included in the holiday price.

A workmate had his honeymoon completely spoiled because everyone at the AI holiday they had booked was drinking enough to sink the Titanic.

After spending the last 2 summers in rural France, Canard Parmentier is a thing of wonder.

We were in the Dordogne a couple of years ago and went to this Food Fete thing in Le Bugue a couple of times - town square set up with tables and benches - stalls all around the outside. You bought bread from one, wine from another, then all different types of food. Paella, chicken, oysters, chips, crepes etc etc. It was magnificent and dirt cheap. Kids all danced in front of the stage with the dj. The locals all turned up with their own dinner services and cutlery. Lovely. No-one will ever convince me that AI is better. Wink

I'm going on holiday with you next time Portofino Grin
AI isn't for me either.

MrsCocoa · 15/05/2014 22:34

Joan you're definitely staying in the wrong hotels. Wink

Grin I believe you. Having said that, we had a nice time in Chieveley Travelodge.

Done two AI in Sardinia and Cuba. They were ok. Not my ideal holiday but suited us with a young dd.

bun - the self catering thing just didn't work for us, breakfast is
a big deal for us.
I'd be happy with a croissant, fruit and coffee.
the other foxes all want FEB's.
that's a fair few greasy pans and plates to wash.
so B&B would be minimum.

if we go half board we do all the local food(y) thing at lunch and have a picnic/local restaurant/street food then.

everyone does what suits their family best, this suits us, I suppose.
