OK. Week without kids, 10th anniversary, Jan/Feb - what would you do?

We need some inspiration. We can't even decide if we want to flop on a beach, investigate a new city, go walking in some amazing place.... and after all, we should be marking 10 years of marriage and 4 kids in some momentous way!

give me some ideas please? If YOU had a week in those circumstances, what would you do? Ignore the cost aspect, I just want inspiration.

THank you!

Italy- anywhere in Italy.

orangegiraffe · 29/08/2006 20:00

A city break, that what I would do.
Or have a day in a hot ar balloon.

orangegiraffe · 29/08/2006 20:01

air balloon< very tired>

TheBlonde · 29/08/2006 20:02

somewhere with sun, sea and shagging

oh and luxury

WideWebWitch · 29/08/2006 20:07

I'd go somewhere amazing that inspired awe and wonder like the Taj Mahal or maybe not as obvious as that but somewhere where we could reflect on the world and our marriage and our lives and also see something incredible and be pampered a fair amount. So 5 star, without a doubt. Or Macchu Picchu, somewhere like that. It would definitely be a combination of 5 star luxury so plenty of lolling about, luxurious dinners and late breakfasts in bed combined with some interesting sightseeing and stuff to do if we wanted to.

WideWebWitch · 29/08/2006 20:10

here maybe

noonar · 29/08/2006 20:15

Somewhere really unchildfriendly, like new york, then a few days at cape cod. isn't hat quite close to ny?

QueenPeaHead · 29/08/2006 21:02

ahhhh www, now you are talking.
have done macchu piccu and the taj mahal but was thinking maybe of going to arizona and seeing the grand canyon and also staying in one of those amazing hotels with seriously good spas in the desert. could also do a hot air balloon too!

anyother thoughts along those lines?

dh suggested venice but I slightly feel I can do that when I'm 60 and would like to be a bit more active and outdoors...

new york and cape cod lovely but not in jan! and perfect with kids so don't want to go there without them.

Go skiing - I ould love to go skiing again, bu can't until dd is old enough to learn otherwise it is just a waste of money

QPH, there was an article, one of those fairly predictable 'places to see before you die' ones in a mag recently, and Taj, Machu, Pyramids, HK etc were there but so were the Grand Canyon and Vic Falls. So what about one of those? Or what about chartering a yacht and drifting about Monaco and stuff for a week? Fully staffed, go where you want, have a vague itinerary but up to you.

See, I so should be v rich!

WideWebWitch · 29/08/2006 22:41

Dream Sailing yacht charter

WideWebWitch · 29/08/2006 22:43

Or do a few amazing places in the world? \link{http://www.freedomjets.com/jet charter, motto 'no strings, just wings' ha ha!}

WideWebWitch · 29/08/2006 22:44

bum, I meant jet charter, motto 'no strings, just wings' ha ha!

See the canyon not the crowds . Oooh I'm envious! 10 years, well done, that's an achievement.

jasper · 29/08/2006 22:56

sleep

Molesworth · 29/08/2006 22:57

If it was only one week, I'd stay in Europe ... it'd have to be Italy

QueenPeaHead · 30/08/2006 08:33

ha ha www, we are clearly built along the same lines. I also have asked about a yacht charter in the carib (but am a bit concerned about being stuck on a boat with a couple of crew watching our every move - I mean how romantic is that? especially as we are naturally v friendly so will probably spend the whole time saying "please, eat with us, no really you aren't playing gooseberry at all".) Ditto flying somewhere by private jet, but frankly that is just burning cash unless you are going somewhere relatively close, in which case what's the point?

I'm quite taken by the arizona idea. Few nights near phoenix, somewhere like here , then a few in sedona, eg here , take a helicopter over the grand canyon, hire a silly car and go up and down a bit of route 66, walk in the desert.... what do you think?

alternative is to go diving/snorkelling in turks and caicos staying at parrot cay or in the maldives but somehow that seems a bit less appealing (although lovely, obviously)...

WideWebWitch · 30/08/2006 08:37

Ha ha, yes, take your point about crew, I would be the same. Those hotels look lovely. Nah to diving imo, too ordinary, you could do that with children if you took a nanny for the littlest. I might have a look at some other hotels if I get a moment to drool and be envious, will post links if I find anywhere that looks great.

Grand Canyon journeys of a lifetime article from Conde Nast Traveller

WideWebWitch · 30/08/2006 08:41

Nice site, cn traveller.

Azure · 30/08/2006 08:43

Angkor Wat plus luxury beach resort?
Okavango Delta plus Victoria Falls (poss Zambian side given the situation in Zimbabwe)?
Iguassu plus Rio / Buzios? Poss for carnival.
Galapagos Islands? (would be great with kids though and prob as a longer journey)
South Pacific (Tahiti, Fiji)? - too far for a week probably
