Hi,
The food (I assume that's what you mean lizard queen) was fairly good at the hotel. Not been AI before so not much to compare too, but was lots of it, hot and refreshed regularly, a fair choice at all mealtimes. Quality a bit hit and miss but always found something we wanted to eat. The main restaurant was buffet service with loads of breakfast, continental and full English, the lunch and evening meal were choice of a few hot dishes (less cooked veg than I would have liked though), salad bar, some nice starters and a few desserts. Some nights they had a chef out doing carved meat (turkey and whole salmon both lovely). Our DD is fussy and there was always something she could eat as they always had pasta, chips ham, cheese and bread rolls out, so we could fall back on them if all else failed! There was also lots of fresh fruit avaiable at every meal. The beach bar did pizzas, burgers, hot dog etc at lunch time, and had a small buffet all day which was enough to make a salad or toastie, and again fruit all day. The pool bar did mexican snacks - had 'nachos' as snack a few times which was only tortilla chips with a dip. The once i had a chicken wrap was nice enough. Both bars did ice creams all day. So bascially, we ate constantly all holiday - no-one would go hungry!
Getting out and about - we had a fairly relaxed week so didn't got far, just moved between hotel pool, small beach by hotel and main beach by resort! We did do a glass bottom boat trip (Sixtos - goes about 5 times a day from the rocks outside the Jardin de Mer restaurant, which is the one with the crazy golf), which I would recommend. Took an hour and cost 10 euros per adult (and 5 for children over 3, but he didn't charge us for 4yo DD despite us offering the money!) We also hired a pedalo for 15 euros for an hour from the small beach by our hotel - all the beaches had them. We also played crazy golf at the Jardin de Mer, which was fun and only cost 2.50 each. We also explored the rocks and paths by our hotel a fair bit (could do a nice walk to a lighthouse, although we didn't get that far with DD). DH borrowed a bike from our hotel to explore further. We walked to the local market, which is on a Sunday evening just above the El Greco hotel, but was very small and not much to get excited about! We took a snorkel and DH really enjoyed using that at the main beach as water was really clear and lots of fish.
If you wanted to get out more, there was a road train going a few times a week to small towns, beaches or the caves in the area, which I regretted not doing afterwards - I think it was 16 euros per adult and half for kids for about 3 hour trip. There were also some boat trips advertised to other towns, the Es Cana Hippy Market and the caves, not sure of price sorry. Buses run to Ibiza town and Santa Eulalia, although not very frequent I don't think.
bluebluecow - I'm afraid we only ate in our hotel. There are a few restaurants with decent review on trip adviser though. We did have a drink in the Jardin Del Mer after crazy golf, and the views over the bay were to die for, so that could be pretty special, but can't comment on the food.
I would highly recommend Portinatx to anyone with young kids looking for a fairly relaxed beach holiday! Sorry for long post, but still in post holiday, dreaming of being back there mode!
