Portinatx - Ibiza

Hi, we are going here for 2 weeks at the end of August. We have been to Ibiza a few times staying at Es Cana so have never stayed in Portinatx. Has anyone been? We are staying AI at the Club Portinatx hotel with 2 dcs, 8 and 11. Would we be able to jump in cab at airport or would that be much dearer than booking a transfer? We land early hours of morn. Smile

Hi there

We're off to Portinatx the last week of August too, for the third time, with DC aged 7 and 4. Its just great. We always just get in a taxi from the airport - it would be about 45-50 euros in the early hours.

We haven't stayed at the Club Portinatx, and usually do HB and get out for a stroll in the evenings and at lunchtime. The small town beach is fab and the views lovely. There are a few really nice bars - one cabaret type place where a guy does tribute stuff - we went to the Elvis night and its was great fun, but others are more chilled. One place does a fab flamenco show once a week - definitely worth a watch.

We love it. If you are out of an evening, we'll be the ones sitting in the bar built into the cliff on the path between tne beaches, chilling out.

We are going there for 1st time on Saturday with 4yo dd. Looking forward to it. So should be able to answer some questions when we get back! Using Thomas Cook transfer though so probably won't know about taxis.

bluebluecow · 14/05/2014 06:50

MyAngels thanks for the info. Even though we are AI we still enjoy getting out and about in the evening so the tribute and Flamenco shows sound great. From what you've said Portinatx sounds lovely, see you thereSmile Cat, hope you have an AMAZING time. I'm looking forward to hearing what you thought of it when you get back. Let me know if you come across our hotel. Happy holidaysGrin

We are staying at Marconfort El Greco. It was the water slides that swayed it for us.
Like you, we are AI. Hoping the food is as good as it looks?!

bluebluecow · 21/05/2014 16:59

I've seen that one. It looks really good and the waterpark's a bonus. Both hotels have got good reviews so hopefully they will be fine. I cant waitGrin

Hi Cat

I was following this thread before- glad to see you had a lovely holiday. Can I ask what the good was like, also if you got out & about? Looking for us possibly for September. Thanks

bluebluecow · 26/05/2014 10:40

Hi Cat, so glad you had a good time. Did you eat out at all? It will be my birthday while away so we will be looking to eat out somewhere quite fancy on that day. Also wondered if you did any boat trips and cost etc?

Hi,
The food (I assume that's what you mean lizard queen) was fairly good at the hotel. Not been AI before so not much to compare too, but was lots of it, hot and refreshed regularly, a fair choice at all mealtimes. Quality a bit hit and miss but always found something we wanted to eat. The main restaurant was buffet service with loads of breakfast, continental and full English, the lunch and evening meal were choice of a few hot dishes (less cooked veg than I would have liked though), salad bar, some nice starters and a few desserts. Some nights they had a chef out doing carved meat (turkey and whole salmon both lovely). Our DD is fussy and there was always something she could eat as they always had pasta, chips ham, cheese and bread rolls out, so we could fall back on them if all else failed! There was also lots of fresh fruit avaiable at every meal. The beach bar did pizzas, burgers, hot dog etc at lunch time, and had a small buffet all day which was enough to make a salad or toastie, and again fruit all day. The pool bar did mexican snacks - had 'nachos' as snack a few times which was only tortilla chips with a dip. The once i had a chicken wrap was nice enough. Both bars did ice creams all day. So bascially, we ate constantly all holiday - no-one would go hungry!

Getting out and about - we had a fairly relaxed week so didn't got far, just moved between hotel pool, small beach by hotel and main beach by resort! We did do a glass bottom boat trip (Sixtos - goes about 5 times a day from the rocks outside the Jardin de Mer restaurant, which is the one with the crazy golf), which I would recommend. Took an hour and cost 10 euros per adult (and 5 for children over 3, but he didn't charge us for 4yo DD despite us offering the money!) We also hired a pedalo for 15 euros for an hour from the small beach by our hotel - all the beaches had them. We also played crazy golf at the Jardin de Mer, which was fun and only cost 2.50 each. We also explored the rocks and paths by our hotel a fair bit (could do a nice walk to a lighthouse, although we didn't get that far with DD). DH borrowed a bike from our hotel to explore further. We walked to the local market, which is on a Sunday evening just above the El Greco hotel, but was very small and not much to get excited about! We took a snorkel and DH really enjoyed using that at the main beach as water was really clear and lots of fish.

If you wanted to get out more, there was a road train going a few times a week to small towns, beaches or the caves in the area, which I regretted not doing afterwards - I think it was 16 euros per adult and half for kids for about 3 hour trip. There were also some boat trips advertised to other towns, the Es Cana Hippy Market and the caves, not sure of price sorry. Buses run to Ibiza town and Santa Eulalia, although not very frequent I don't think.

bluebluecow - I'm afraid we only ate in our hotel. There are a few restaurants with decent review on trip adviser though. We did have a drink in the Jardin Del Mer after crazy golf, and the views over the bay were to die for, so that could be pretty special, but can't comment on the food.

I would highly recommend Portinatx to anyone with young kids looking for a fairly relaxed beach holiday! Sorry for long post, but still in post holiday, dreaming of being back there mode!

bluebluecow · 26/05/2014 13:50

Cat, thank you so much for all that useful information. It all sounds so wonderful. Will you be booking to go back next year?:-)

OP posts:
CatL · 26/05/2014 15:38

bluebluecow - probably not, but only because we probably won't be able to afford to go abroad next year, and we tend to like to try new places anyway. However, it is definitely somewhere I would happily go again, if that makes sense!

bigpaws · 27/05/2014 06:25

Wow Cat, sounds like you had a perfect break. Thank you for all that useful information.
My fear was that I would be confined to the Hotel/beach - but sounds like there is plenty to do out and about.
Crazy golf will be a must for us. Likewise the boat trip.
Thanks again, Smile

Hi CatL, for various reasons we have changed our hotel and are now staying at the Paradise Beach. I have emailed them as we are not flying until very late on our last day and need a late checkout but they havent responded. Just wondered if you know how much they charge for a late checkout and if we could have use of AI until we go. Do you know what facilities are available in the Studio rooms and also do you have to get up early to get a sunbed? Sorry for all the questions!!!
