Where can we go at half term?

Doesn't need to be for 7 days - a 3 /4 night city break would be fine

Can't be long haul

Don't want sun and beach (shoot me first!)

But it has to be reasonably entertaining for 2 and 4 year old. 2 year old is dead easy (easy going, goes with flow), 4 year old is inquisitive and could handle a little light sight seeing as long as there is some child centered stuff for her to do

Had thought about Reykjavik. It will be cold but not unbearable (3 degrees C) and daylight hours will be 8-10. Children would enjoy the natural hot pools for outdoor bathing...but not sure what else there would be for them to do?

Any thoughts...

Stockholm? Lovely at that time of year and has about 100 museums including fantastic outdoor museums which are great for children. Lots of wonderful cafes, boat trips etc.
I'm pondering this one too - might be Aberdeensire for us!

Thanks ediemay - I hadn't considered Stockholm so it's worth a look...

bloody hell .. people really do do these kind of holidays with pre-schoolers

personally I'd stay at home and do a load of day trips .. but then I live in London

Saturn74 · 29/08/2006 10:19

I'd cut down the travelling and go to Center Parcs!

If you do Reykjavik you will of course be in the home of Magnus Scheving, Mr Sportacus. They might do Lazy Town studio tours...?
My dsis reckoned Stockholm would be a fabulous city break destination as well (but she went in summer and has no kids ). Really beautiful place.
Like Twiglett however I will be in SE1 again come October trying to look amazed at my gazillionth viewing of a tank in the Imperial War Museum

HyacinthB · 29/08/2006 22:09

Done Centre Parcs a gazillion times!

Not much different trawling 4 yr old dd around on a day trip to Natural History museum (which she enjoyed) and the sights of Stockholm / Iceland imo. Dh is particularly adept at making these things more interesting and engaging for her.

She was happy in Paris when we went recently...so don't think it is at all unworkable to do another city break

Fabulous suggestion about Lazy Town studios Marina - may have to google that...

It was a fab hoiday tho'

HyacinthB · 29/08/2006 22:26

we were staying with family

We had lovely walk round beautiful lakes in woodland

We drove out to see deer eating falled fruit in peoples gardens - sometimes they get drunk on rotten fruit

We did a boat ride around the city - which was fab (in english) & not expensive as I thought it would be

We visited the Astrid Lungrun (apologises for spelling) Museum which DD loved

We didn't eat out too much and we saw a film in english with swedish subtitles (well wierd)

We did love it

HyacinthB · 30/08/2006 14:54

Thanks - I think that's clinched the deal. Stockholm then!

HyacinthB · 30/08/2006 15:22

lol, no need to be. I'm sure it will be good, and if it isn't I'll just have to hunt you down!
