Help!!! when to drop bags? (Longhaul trip but with shorthaul 1st leg)

I've checked in online so all we have to do is drop bags - we don't still have to be there 3 hours ahead, do we? 2 hours should be plenty? (It's an 8am flight & the airport is an hour away, I'd rather not leave at 4am if I can help it!)

Flight is to US via Düsseldorf, both legs with Lufthansa - will we have to reclaim bags & recheck them at Düsseldorf? Stopover is only 1 hr 40 mins max

That's what I do (I am there now)! Is your daughter picking you up or do you need some hints about getting into Manhattan from the airport?

One thing about Newark, when you get off the plane, there is this amazing view of Manahattan from the arrivals hall (if you're in Terminal B, which most likely you will be) DO NOT get your camera/ phone out and snap away! In fact keep your phone in your bag til you're well into baggage claim. Even though there are signs everywhere, the number of people I have seen being carted off for using their phones in immigration hall is ridiculous! At least one person every time I am in there!

she'll be meeting us & taking us back in a cab - she's told us we'll get a great view from the cab but didn't say anything about not taking photos in the terminal & yes, it is B, so that's great advice, sarnie, thanks (could do without carting off after a 15+ hour day!)

she has mentioned the rain too - it is looking much better from tomorrow - just Thursday maybe a bit wet.
