Just ds (age 15) and I from the second week of July for 5 days. Where would you go? We're going to catch the train to pompeii, visit the colosseum, but otherwise we're not sure. Ds can't walk too far so no mountains. Will 700 euro's be enough for 5 days of food and activities (I have to save it)? Any advice?

Smile thank you.

Oh, OK. I haven't booked yet so we could go to Sorento and catch the train to Rome for a day, or stay in Naples. He can walk but less than a few metres before he needs to stop and sit down because his feet and ankles hurt. He may be OK if we don't rush. The dates are flexible. I have a week booked off work so we can stay for 7 days if we wanted. Smile

Hi, you probably need to consider Pompeii carefully in this case. It will be very hot in July and you walk a long long way to see much of it. The sites in Rome are generally more compact but still involve a fair amount of walking - what is your DS into?

Thank you, I didn't know it was a trek Sad. He likes books, warhammer, pokemon... and my little pony Confused He also likes science stuff, mainly physics and chemistry, and he's studying Latin so I thought the colosseum (and a day at the beach) but other than that, lots of pizza and ice cream. I don't think he'd approve of David so we may avoid that, he may like the sistine chapel but chilling out would be on the top of the pack. I think if we take a slow pace he'll be OK.

Oh, and he likes classical music and is learning how to play the cello so I was thinking of looking for a concert one evening. He doesn't like opera though, he says they sound like they are wailing Grin

Ooh, I love Rome!

LadySybil, if you're DS is into quite geeky stuff (and I use the term as a compliment - I'm a huge geek!) he might like Profondo Rosso, a retro horror and sci fi memorabilia/comics shop on Via dei Gracchi, owned by the film director Dario Argento. I went last year and I loved it. There's a tiny, very kitsch horror movie museum in the basement. It's a wee bit scary but nothing too bad.

San Crispino gelateria near the Trevi fountain does brilliant ice cream.

Grin He'd LOVE that! Thank you.

He thought the York Dungeon was tame so he may be OK with the museum.

Oh, thank you for the link Wink

Ballet in the Caracalla baths - there's opera too which might not suit.
It would be stunning though - amazing place

Ohhhh... thank you! Grin I can't see him going to see an opera, although I have a couple of months to get him use to them Wink Madame Butterfly seems 'ds friendly' enough.

If you only have 5 days just stay in Rome; TrevinFountain, Spanish Steps, Colleseum, Vatican and St Peters Basillica! The pantheon........

Watch Angels and Demons before you go to give you a snap shot of the city!

Enjoy!!!!!

Smile Good plan, thank you.

Oh... if your DS can only walk a few metres at a time then it's extra important you work out how to avoid queues. I'm not sure either Pompeii or Ostia would be a good idea.

For those looking for places to stay, we stayed here www.flipkey.com/rome-condo-rentals/p275412/?utm_source=flipkey&utm_medium=email&utm_term=propertyname&utm_campaign=rbo_inquiry_confirm./ It was great and good value too.

For budget purposes , a huge helping of two flavours of ice cream costs 2 euros Grin
