What carry on bags for toddlers?

We are flying long haul in the summer with just turned three year old DTs. We were going to get Trunkis but have abandoned that now as I had visions of us having to carry our hand baggage, tired children and Trunkis...

Anyone recommend what to pack their stuff in for the plane - a kid's rucksack or wheelie case or do you just take an extra adult bag? I think they will like the novelty of having their own bags but can see us having to carry them whatever we do.

Thanks

Its not quite a carry on bag... but my dd (2) was given this play doh suitcase for her birthday. She's barely touched the play doh, but the suitcase has been brilliant, she'll take it anywhere we let her...

We used it as her carry on bag for a flight last month and it was great. Because its clear, you can see where everything is, so you don't have to rummage around. Its soft so you can pack it up and it fits under the seat in front. Its incredibly light, so you can carry it, or attach it to your own pull on bag really easily. We thought it was fantastic - but there are probably better custom made products out there...

It held a couple of story books, couple of sticker/colouring books, couple of pens, her headphones, jumper, small teddy and a couple of snacks.
