Looking for ideas for summer holiday and I've always liked the idea of being in the alps in summer. In a ski resort you would have cable cars, etc, to get you to the mountain tops and all facilities in valley. but are these places lively enough in summer? have just one dd aged 12. she is outdoor type but would want her to be able to mix with other kids.

We did Zell am See in the summer as well. Went through Thomson Lakes so there were a few other Brits in our hotel as well. Dd loved it and still rates as her favourite holiday. We did a few excursions with them but you can also get the train and local buses.
She found that at the local swimming pool (outdoor by the lake) the local children all spoke to her as they wanted to practice their English.

We went a few times as kids and I have wonderful memories!

Echo the recc above for Explore. When I was on my own with DS we did loads of Exodus/Explore hols. They were universally great. Haven't done the Alps with them but sure it'll be similar.

You can choose 'teen departures' to make sure there's at least a few older kids. And one advantage is you get disproportionately more lone parents on them so you get to make playmates too!!!

Bourg st Maurice in the French Alps is great - below the ski area of Les Arcs. The ski lifts are open July and August.
There's mountain biking, horse riding, white water rafting, parapenting etc.
Not far from Val d'Isere, Tignes, chamonix etc.
lovely part of the world.

We stayed near Megeve last year and loved it so much we are going back. We got the summer activities pass which gets you cable cars, chair lifts, the summer luge, tennis, etc as well as entry into the most beautiful swimming pool in the world

We went to La Tania for a wedding last summer and it was fab. We stayed for a few days either side and there were quite a few activities on including a brilliant outside pool, the cable cars were running for mountain biking and on the one rainy day we didn't have to go far to a big indoor pool & ice rink. There are various kids clubs on but they are predominately French kids.
