Warner Brothers Making of Harry Potter Tour- Worth It? Discounts?

Hi, I'm taking one of my three teenaged DDs to London this summer and am interested in taking her to The Making of HP tour but am horrified by the prices.. over £100 for two... So I am wondering if a) anyone has any idea how to get a reduced price admission? b) how good is it?

My three are all HP mad and I also have to consider if it's actually "fair" to take one without the others who will be at a worthy-but-necessary summer courses

Thanks

The Harry Potter tour is about £30 a ticket, just under, isn't it! Was when we went last year. Children just over £20.

Dd loved it. We've been twice now and both times spent a few hours in there.

Weegiemum · 18/04/2014 21:31

It's utterly brilliant but is expensive .... and then there's the shop .......

We took our dc (10,12,14) there in feb during a long weekend to London (from Scotland) - dh got in free as I use a wheelchair, but it was still expensive for us. We were there for 4-5 hours and didn't notice the time passing at all!

Don't buy the butterbeer though - it's rank!!

Weegiemum · 18/04/2014 21:32

The first price you see on the website includes "extras" like a souvenir guide etc ... there are cheaper prices available.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/04/2014 21:35

I think it's about £30 each and tbh I thought it was worth every penny. Can't wait to go back.

Ubik1 · 18/04/2014 21:38

Never bed but a friend of DD2's brought back some Jellybeans and much hilarity was had by all eating the vomit flavoured ones Grin

Mitchy1nge · 18/04/2014 21:45

we went when it had just opened, was really impressed actually, was like a universal studios type thing in terms of organisation and quality and customer service - weird experience for Watford or anywhere in the uk

can't remember if it was expensive but it was surprisingly good

pofaced · 18/04/2014 23:43

Thanks... I think my problem was I was looking at the price including the price from Victoria... which seems to be £20+ as opposed to £2 fare to Watford Junction!

Any other advice v welcome!

Thanks again

Totally worth it! I went before Christmas and it was just under £30. Agree about staying away from the Butterbeer! voms

PeachandBlack · 19/04/2014 01:05

A family ticket (2 adults, 2 children) was 85 when I went last year, not including the audio guide or book.

I've been twice, and would go again. It's totally worth the money.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2014 16:31

When you get into the first big room with all the classrooms etc in, walk straight to the end. That way, you might be able to get to do the broom riding and flying car pictures without having to queue too much.

The Butterbeer is disgusting, but I think you do need to try it. Just buy one and share it - I doubt anybody could actually drink a full one.

Photographs get cheaper the more you buy - I think we got 5 or 6 for £30, which seemed decent value.

VivaLeBeaver · 19/04/2014 16:35

We loved it. But I also loved the butterbeer. Grin

Cataline · 19/04/2014 16:39

We went this week and absolutely loved it. Very good value for money considering everything you get to see!

Ponysocks · 19/04/2014 16:45

DS2 and I are desperate to go!

How long on average does it take to get round? DH and DS1 aren't fussed so DH was thinking about dropping me and DS2 off, taking DS1 into London for a few hours and then picking us up later.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2014 16:45

Pony - I'd say 4 hours-ish, but tbh I'd have been happy to stay all day!

Iloveonionchutney · 19/04/2014 16:49

I thought it was worth every penny, spent an afternoon there when Dd was just 2 and want to go back to spend the day there without Dd as there is so much to see, I could easily spend a whole day there, minimum of 3 hours I think.

Wigeon · 19/04/2014 16:57

I thought it was brilliant! Probably stayed at least 3 hours, maybe more like 4? One thing to bear in mind is that the time on your ticket is the time at which you can join the (inside) queue to get in, not the time you actually got it. We were probably in the queue for 20-25 mins, which was a bit annoying when you have a timed ticket. But worth it once you get in.

There is a special bus which runs from Watford Junction. And you can use an Oyster card from London Euston to Watford Junction, which is handy. Where are you coming from?

swooosh · 19/04/2014 17:02

I went. Not a Harry Potter fan but friend had free tickets so we went., I'd seen the first few films just once but wasn't that into it.

IT WAS AMAZING! We had a GREAT day, spent about 4 hours there, absolutely fascinating and left wantingt I watch all the films. Would definitely go back.

Wigeon · 19/04/2014 17:06

I'm not particularly an HP fan, although have seen enough of the films to want to go - just that I live less than 10 mins drive away and felt I ought to go! So I imagine true HP fans would absolutely love it.

Loveleopardprint · 19/04/2014 17:38

Best day out we have been on!!
My advice is to try and get there for the first tour of the day as there were no queues for the broomsticks and we managed to walk up Diagon alley by ourselves!!

I don't mind butterbeer and dd quite likes it. We've had it before in Florida too. It tastes very much like American cream soda with a few other flavours added

CorrieDale · 19/04/2014 18:49

Best day out ever. We had 3 generations with us and everyone loved it. I had been gobsmacked at the cost and grimly determined to get money's worth. Two minutes in and I was hooked!

Groovee · 18/05/2014 19:42

It was an excellent day out. I'd definitely get an audio guide too as they were worth their weight in gold. We were there about 4 hours.
