DS Always Sick On Long Haul Flights

We are currently in LA on holiday, flying back to the UK tmrw. DS was sick three times in short succession flying out to San Fran two weeks ago. He has flown long haul to SE Asia four times in the last year (we lived there for a year) and was sick on each flight. He's 9 years old. The sickness always comes around 3/4 of the way through the flight. It's not related to any turbulance or to preparing to land. He is also never car sick.

I've done some poking around on line and I think the most likely cause may be dehydration. Has anyone else experienced this?

Poor poppet is getting anxious about our flight to London tmrw.

Thanks.

This happens to my DD2. She tends to be sick towards the end of long flights and for some hours afterwards. I have no idea why and I make her drink lots even before the flight starts.

Maybe try the anti sickness wristbands? My kids used these and were much like your DS.

No clue how they work - probably just a placebo - but they always stopped my DD from being sick on planes. She still felt sick, but no vomit.

dehydration makes me feel sick so it is certainly worth a try. Take an empty litre or bigger bottle through security, fill it at the airside taps and get him guzzling from that. The tiny amounts that the airline bring round are never enough.

also balance lots of water with the odd salty snack.

If you buy the wrist bands make sure you place them on there pressure points , do keep hydrated , always take your own bottle of water on board and as last resort buy some anti sickness tablets and take on as your taken off then maybe another after six hours into journey . That way you should be covered hopefully make sure you have bags with you in case you need them. Nerves will play a part as he now expecting to be sick , so remind him about his bands or sickness tablets he's taken .

Hooray! No sickness for the first time on a long haul flight after really nailing his water consumption. Obviously we normally try to ensure he stays well hydrated anyway but after a few hours in the air it's not difficult to get dehydrated.
